I have the adjustable nozzle, its set at 2 turns out currently.
I had the same issue. I only have my nozzle out half a turn now and it's running perfect! it's also about 9 inches deep.

Something is up with my alpha 200. When I first purchased it I ran it and 9.5" of water depth with the pipe 75% open. Two years later I now have to run it 90% closed at 11" of water depth to get decent foam head. I noticed it started acting this way once I started running bio pellets. I figured the problem would go away after a few days but it's only gotten worse. I disassembled the pump and cleaned it but no change on the skimmate. Do I need to completely disassemble and clean? I'm trying to avoid that since I can't just pull the skimmer out. I would need to take out the entire sump.
Disassemble the silencer, pull out the foam that's in there and throw it away. Put it all back together and see if that helps any. Also, are any of the pins on your impeller broken off or anything?

I pulled out the foam with no change on the skimmer performance. Maybe the motor is going bad. It's going on 2 years now.
Finally dialed in!!
Jeremy,
Quick question, because I may be in the same boat, what does the foam truly do? I take it that they put the foam in there as noise dampening? Does it increase the noise level if removed?
