Royal-Exclusiv / Vertex Cone Skimmer Club

Jeremy,

So I was planning to buy an Alpha 200 for my 150g (200g total water volume), but have just found out they're no longer made by Royal Exclusiv. I plan to run a heavily stocked tank with SPS. What would you guys recommend from the Bubble King line? Or another place to buy a Royal Exclusiv branded Alpha 200?

@Confuse

thats right. Current, the Alphas are not manufctured by Royal-Exclusiv. RE dont work anymore with Proline/Vertex. I can recommend for your 200 g Tank a Double-Cone 200 or Supermarines 200, and go with the new RD3 Speedy Pump. Thats a *Dreamteam* ...

I think, both modells are on Stock in USA/Premium-Aquatics....

best regards ... Klaus

Go for the double cone. I just purchased a double cone 180 w/speedy to replace my ~5 year old Alpha 170. The Alpha has been a reliable skimmer but never preformed very good for my setup. I have yet to install the double cone but a can tell you its like a piece of high-end art work. I just want to look at it and not get it wet. HaHa! Contact Jeremy at PA he can help you decide.

Hi Jeremy,

I'm looking into getting the new BK double cone with the DC pump. I currently have a 200 with a 30 gallon sump. I am currently medium stocked on fish with a lot of sps. Would you recommend the 200 or 250 model and do you have them in stock?

Thank you,
Nick

Without a doubt I would do the 8" body Double Cone 200 on this setup, and not the 10" Double Cone 250. The 200 would be more than plenty for any bioload you ever could put in that size display. You'll love the smoothness and sheer quietness of the new Speedy pump as well, they are phenomenal!

Thanks for the information Jeremy. Do you happen to have any in stock?

Yes, those are in stock and we can ship immediately. It looks like you're in a 3-day zone from us, so if you can get the order in within the next hour we can still have it shipped today for arrival to you before the weekend.

What is the optimal water level for the double cone 200? And how much space does the skimmer take up at the base with pump? I figure I need to make a skimmer stand for it.

I would suggest starting the skimmer at 8" and go from there. You shouldn't end up any less than 7" and no more than 9" though.

Thanks. And are there any updated dimensions with the RD speedy 3 pump in the manual? The manual only shows the RD 1200 in it's dimensions. I'm trying to get a sump built on the double cone 200 and speedy 3 pump.

Hi Confuse....

it´s the same dimensions...... RD1 and RD3 have the same Pumpheaddiameter....

Hope it helps.....

best regards... Klaus

I have a 120g currently running an omega 130 (about 5 months old). Do you guys think I should upgrade to a vertex alpha 170? Pump on it is about 2yrs old.

The bioload is:
Purple Tang
PB Tang
Blue Hippo Tang
Mandarin Goby
McCoskeri Wrasse
Linespot Wrasse
Bluehead Wrasse
Exquisite Wrasse
Flame Wrasse
Rhomboid Wrasse

mixed reef (SPS+euphyllia/acans)

The Omega 130 is a 5" body skimmer, and a little too small for that size tank. I'd suggest looking at a good 6" body skimmer such as the Double Cone 150, Mini 160, or if you really want to go a bit larger the Double Cone 180. The Alpha 170 isn't a bad skimmer, but the neck on it is really big and I'd put it more on something along the lines of a heavily stocked 150g display or so.
