RR jaw dropper

It is quite possible the polyps can change colour. I have an acro which came in with reddy brown polyps...the polyps are now really nice blue on most of the coral.

I wouldnt pay more than 1/10th either.

So many times various LFS guys have tried to hype certain acros to me and ask crazy prices...I have walked away every single time. Yes, I am willing to pay slightly more for a nice piece, but asking for 10 times more for a tiny frag is just crazy...

There are a few true aquarists who will pay a premium price for a coral with the hopes of growing it and spreading that piece to the community, but I've found over the years, especially of late, there are short term (collectors) who want to brag about the latest coral they have...they also want to sell at a high price...a lot of times for the money...not to propagate and get that piece into the community. These are also the people who dont stay in the hobby for long...

Hopefully there will be a few folks that can color the RR JawDropper up to its full potential and share it with others for a reasonable price...there really are 'long-term' hobbyists who like to acquire crazy pieces and hope they reach their full potential and then share with others for the simple pleasure of spreading a beautiful coral at a reasonable price given the market value. Not everyone in the hobby is out to gouge others. There are simply way more wonderful reefers sharing and spreading the coral love than there are of the other type :). I know I can be a bit of a "look through rose-colored glasses" kind of person but in all my years reefing I have found most reefers to be generous and reasonable...however I have experienced the other side of the coin...once bitten!!!
It will be interesting to see what time does for the RR JD in a variety of different tanks.

Now, Where can I find a piece of the RR Bleeding Avenger? LOL,that looks beautiful!!!

That's why we all love you Alicia! Looking at the bright side of things.

i've seen an handful myself....

So there are two more for sale for $875 each.

They are tiny (1/4") frags and I personally don't think they are the same coral. Same red polyps as the previous frags pictured, but the corallites are different and the polyps are growing on the base with no corallite structure showing at all.

I'm skeptic at best these are the same. Thoughts?

Does look different...BUT the problem is that the frag is so small you cant tell until it grows much bigger...

$875 for 1/4" frags...wow...

The corallite structure looks different, too.

But I hear ya on the frag size and ID. It's nearly impossible and way too much risk especially since they are fresh cut.

Ya i would feel a little better about buying an entire.frag, but everyone is cutting their already small frags in half and then selling them. :(

Thanks Zack, that is an offer I won't refuse :).

There are some pictures of the entire RR JD colony floating around, maybe those pictures can also help with ID of frags. It will be interesting to see if anyone lets their frags grow up big enough to compare to original colony. It will take some time though. I guess you have to weigh if it's worth it or not to get it. If it is the real deal and grows up to look close to the mama colony that would be awesome!!!

lol'd and +1. You wont be able to get a good read on color until at least another inch or two of growth.

That is straight ridiculous. I think the most I am willing to pay for a frag is $50-$60 tops.

It's all relative and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but money will stay in my pocket on "designer" corals.

This has to be a joke right? I would pay $15 bucks for that frag. This is insane anyone willing to entertain this is crazy.

+2^ I'm not selling my Bleeding avengers I'll give you one for Free as long as it's passed on for Free!!!

O.K. I got a rant :uhoh3:

I'm not into all the high prices been doing this wayy too long and don't need money. I remember when all their was where colonies we used to frag em to raise money for the local Boston Reefers club. Back in the day we made something like 600.00 off 15.00-25.00 frags at the store fragging 1 colony and all the money went to the local club. This ^ IMO is where all the frag stuff really began!! We found out that by doing this we could share more and trade with others to acquire a whole collection rather than stripping the Ocean clean. Heck I used to dig into show tanks and give people free frags if they spend over a couple 100 bucks just because I felt like they where a good customer and they spent a lot.

Fragging and propagation started about the same time 1999-2000 may be 2001. Not too long after out in Fiji then everywhere else they began their fragging operations. This is where the home hobbyist/business began to realize heck I'll quit my job and make a living by growing and clipping my own corals. This has since putt a lot of stores in all of our communities out of business. If their where still only legitimate store fronts selling corals we would all have a killer coral store in our towns today now their are fewer and fewer local stores as time moves on.

IMO it's really out of control trade is free people!!

It really amazes me people are making a living gouging from their couches. I mean have you looked at the backgrounds of some of these hobbyist/home business setups? Not only do I question a lot of them on health and quality of the coral but with all the photo-shopping going on I actually wonder about what I would receive.

Since their are some pieces I like that local stores just can't afford I've done a few online purchases. One specifically with someone who was NOT a storefront and WOW was it a joke!! I was just amazed with what he considered 800.00 in frags. I wouldn't even be able to sleep at night sending a box like he did not to mention it took two days to get to me. Long story short they all died within 24hrs. This person then began to tell me it wasn't his fault it was FedEx's fault and he should be sending me to them to recover my money and that he din't have to do a thing about it. This was the first and last time I mean he grew the dam things it din't cost anything at most 100 bucks to covered all the salt, chemicals and electrical for a year to grow the chips he sent for 800.00 and he was mad at me LMAO!! Last Time.

O.K. Back on topic sorry LOL.

Yea 800+ another amazing accomplishment theirs an a*s for every seat lets hope someone who dug deep is willing to trade for free. I can't wait to see if this coral lives up to the hype only time will tell now.

Yes the price is ridiculous. Some people have money to burn. Not a big deal.
At these prices, and with the questionable photography, I would request a WYSIWYG video of my frag and the surrounding. I would want to see if other colors in the tank are off as well as my $800 frag ;)

imma stop selling crack cocaine and sell this frag instead lol

it's more expensive than gold, what you rkn a 1/4" frag weigh?

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I have been trading and giving free frags away for years. And I do it for the love of the hobby. It would mean the world to me if more people felt and thought the way I do about the hobby. Too many people see it as an opportunity to make a quick buck, I hear it all the time, hobbyist with a rare coral tries to get others with that same coral to set a high price for it so they can all profit.

Let's bring this hobby to a place where we enjoy it as a hobby and not a business.
