Hey guys! I need a ID

My pokerstar Monti has been doing crappy just randomly and I decided to dip it lastnight and 3 of these guys popped out. They are about the size of a safety pin when moving. In my other tank ive had aefw's so ive been on the lookout. I havent noticed any bite marks or eggs so im confused. Why would they be on my pokerstr and not touch any of my other babies? I have about 15 frags...all healthy

Let me know what ya think
Thanks
david

wish I could help but it's very blurry.. It doesn't look like the ones i've seen rather long..but I can't say one way or another w/that photo.

I was afraid of that buddy, sadly that was the best pic I could get at the time before my flight so I got what I could have. Thanks for the response my friend, im out of town till Tues so ill look into it a little more when I get back

aefw eat acropora not montipora

Truth, that's why im lossssst with this. Monti was doing shitty... dipped it... found 3 of these guys on it. Afros look fine, no eggs, no bites. Are these just hugggge flatworms that just happen to be hanging on my pokerstar/ the pokerstars rock orrrr?

Ahh

probably just planaria. they will irritate acros and montis, covering up their flesh and stressing them out. i would hit salifert flatworm exit to be sure

Hopefully that's what it is. I would assume the same because it makes no sense why they would be on my Monti and not on the acros?

definitely a flatworm. Does look like the acropora eating ones, but there are many different species. If your acros look fine (no round bite marks on the undersurface or base of the coral) then just get a wrasse and/or mandarin to help keep them in check.

Im in the process of getting 3 McCoskers Wrasses so im glad that will help. All the corals definitely have no bites on them. Ill keep a eye out for the next few weeks, but I've had aefw in another tank of mine and I have yet to see anything. Would u also suggest getting some salifert flatworm exit

I've personally seen flatworms that were covering 3 different species of Montipora. They basically just laid over the top of the monti but nothing else (acros or softies). I tried helping by recommending a flatworm exit dip and that actually worked. I'll also note that the FW's we treated for looked like the one in your picture.

Hey!

Ya mine were basically crawling on the Monti, did yours cause any issues? I haven't seen anymore aside from those 3, but they were pretty big and that makes me assume there will be more. What dip did u end up using? Thanks for the response!

They ended up browning out the coral. With no PE or light the coral will eventually die. I've tried both the Blue Life FW removal and Salifert FW Exit and they both worked. They were dips only, so I'm not sure if a whole tank treatment would work, but I don't see why it wouldn't.
