Ryan's 300 Gallon Starfire Journal

Ryan, love the recent fish addition selections and would love to see some pics of those guys. How big are your C. bathyphilyus? Did you get a pair? Also interested to see how the P. ventralis work out for you...love the fish but have always been concerned of their rumored delicateness.

So should I add the fairy wrasse directly to the main tank since it's been treated with prazipro and copper from my LFS for a few weeks ?
I am not adding the Angels and tangs to the main tank until they are eating and free of any parasite
Also I am adding ozone along with my UV hopefully it helps with the ick :)

Im just saying that with the trouble you have been having with fish, I would take it slowly. Wrasses will always acclimate better when you use an acclimation container! Remember, Slow but steady wins the race!!!

looks fantastic Ryan, how do you find the scribbled angel or do u have a pair?

Thanks man! I just have a single Juvi scribble. Im not sure if she'll ever transition to a beautiful blue body male but the fish sure is cool.

On a side note, I think I figured out what to do about my ventilation... I'm going to add the 435 cfm external exhaust fan to help remove the hot air from the room. Then I'll keep everything closed except for the door to the fish room. I'll leave the window outside the door open to draw cool air from outside or cool house air into the fish room then out of the exhaust creating a constant flow of fresh air throught he fish room.

I also moved my VHO's around yesterday. I angled them about 15 degrees inward to get a better angel on the reef and moved the halide reflectors forward to hopefully get some better light penetration. The vho's were also in the middle 6' of the tank so I separated them to get better light penetration to the ends of the tank.

Additionally, I'm having some algea problems from adding some new rocks and messing up my zeo supplements. I think i've got a plan on how to rebalance my nutrient processing and get the tank back on track. My alk is a little low at 6.5 but not too bad because my goal is 7.5.

Once my algea is cleaned up more i'll get some picture of the coral and all the new fish!

Hi Dan and thank you. Im really thrilled with them too. Im contemplating the Nahacky on DD right now, but im hesitating because it is similar to my coral sea hooded adn if im going ot spend $300 I'd rather put it towards a tinkeri or bandit! Or save it for some RCT Interruptus! My bathyphilyus are small, maybe 2.75" and I do have a pair. the male is starting to develop some sweet colors. The ventralis have been fantastic. They arn't out much besides feeding time but I can sit behind the tank and watch them hanign out. Very cool and very pretty. They are delicate but I got soem good ones from PIA and will be gettin another 5-6 I hope!

If only I could get them to mate....I'd be rich!!!!

Thanks Chris. The ventralis are incredible. I would definitely grab the PIA trio.

I would have more to show but I havn't had the best of luck with fish as of late. Earlier in the year I lost a beautiful Splendid fairy wrasse, I lost my Bellae, I just lost my tinkeri hybrid, and i think i lost my female hooded fairy... Terrible... Many of these are very difficult to come by and me losing them have really pushed me into depression.

I feel you pain brother...I just lost my conspic out of the blue...stopped eating and just withered away. Tried to save her, but that was it...

I am now on on a war path to get a pair and am just waiting for the new shippments to arrive.

Terrible to hear about the Bellae...wrasse are difficult anyhow...

How did you lose the hybrid??

Sorry man...

The tinker was in QT doing fabulous. it ate in teh acclimation bucket and was feeding on pellets since day 1. I put her through prazi and she didn't skip a beat. i have been gone quite a bit too so i didn't give her the attention she needed. I added 1/2 dose of cupramine on my way to work in the morning. my wife said she didn't eat at night but never told me. when I got home in the morning she was dead... The same thing happened with the splendid fairy wrasse. Im not sure why that is happening but I may stop dosing cupramine since I still have ich in my tank anyway. As long as I keep flukes out I shoudl be ok. I hope if there is velvet, it will surface in QT and then I'll treat w/ prazi. The bellae did great also all the way through QT. I added her to the display then didn't see her for a week. She showed up and was around for about 2 weeks then one day I never saw her again.... So depressing...

Sorry to hear about the troubles Ryan. It's always hard to lose any fish but 2x when they are hard to find. Hang in there man!

sorry to hear ryan... I went thru a tough stretch with a near wipeout of my tank but im back stronger now and hopefully it will pick up for u too. im still hunting for a tinkers and may have a shot at one next week. lets see if it finally pans out.

That sounds not so good Ryan,i hope it ends here for you whit loosing fish.

It takes years to become a nice fish collection so it's bad loosing them.

That is the worst part Dan. I havn't seen either of the three I lost since. At this point im not sure I would try again just because they are so expensive and I just dont have the time to put in. Working two jobs, two kids, and school plus a fish tank is a ton of work!

Sorry to hear about that man. The hybrid tinkers I got was incredible. I'd definitly look at Pacific island aquatics. They have some great fish.

Thanks Luc. I saw your video on reef b uilders and it looked incredible. I view my fish as a collection and any great collection takes time and patience. What kills me is to continue to spend more money and time on fish I already bought!

This hobby give me sooo much frustration but a lot of gratification as well... What fish are you after next Luc?
