S. gigantea at last

I am moving from thailand to the uk soon so had to, a friend has it and I can visit them any time, It was hard though.

That's awesome Minh! You've been waiting a long time for one, I have my fingers crossed for you.

And, adtravels: Wow, that must have been hard to part with. Good luck with your move. That's quite a change in scenery!

Sometime I'd love to hear your exact setup and care practices, Minh. You seem to have the touch with the harder species.

Minh,
That is a gorgeous anemone. I would love to keep one, but I can't add any other anemones with my Magnificas.
I know that Rod keep all his anemones in the same system. He does run carbon. I think I will try to do the same thing. I will keep two Magnifica in a 30X30X25 cube and the Gigantea in the other 30X30X25. Both will share the same sump.

I will try to get one or two more Gigantea (I don't know if I ever get another healthy one) and put it in the same tank. I think I will keep this tank (60 g tank) to quarantine any new anemones before I put them into the display cube tank. If and when I get this into the new system, I don't want to risk it by put in a sick anemone. I got a beautiful green Haddoni, I added a new blue Haddoni and lost both because the blue was sick and transmitted this to the green that I had for 2 years.

I have not heard that Gigantea asexually reproduce. They stay on rock near the sand surface and require lots of light and current

Over the weekend I got problem with my tank. Somehow the GFI got shut off. I really don't have much control over the electricity to this tank since it is in my office. Somehow the GFI tripped for no reason. fortunatly I came to the office Sat PM for some work and find the tank totally darl, clowdy and lifeless. My Yellow tang, Orchid dottyback, and my Picasso clown dead. Huge colony Xenia and almost all my SPS gone. Still living are my snowflake clown and two yellow tail damsels. I got 20 g already mixed all the time so I turn on the electricity and do a 20 g water change and mixed 40 g water. Camp back Sunday do 40 g water change, 40 g chnge also on mMonday and Tuesday and got 40 g water mixed for today.
The tank stablized and no further death. almost all my SPS and Xenia are gone. Very fortunate that I was able to same my Gigantea. It and the Snowflake clown are essentially back to normal.
Here is a picture from this AM. i am taking this tank down and bring it (the Gigantea home to put in my 30X30X25 that I set up fopr it in the next few weeks. BTW, it grew from about 10 inches or so to 18 inches over the three months in my tank. It is doing very well today. They seem to be hardy once establish.

Sorry to hear about the tank crash:( BUT, glad to hear your Gigantea and snowflake made it!!!

Sorry to hear of the losses but glad the gigantea is OK. Close call!!

I lost livestock due to a mystery GFCI trip. At the time that I whined about it on the forums people told me "there is no such thing as a GFCI trip for no reason" yet I maintained that I could never find a reason and it was something that seemed to happen to me once or twice a year - and with that kind of frequency it is impossible to track down. Or so I thought, anyhow. I'm renovating my basement right now and I ended up "decommissioning" the two circuits I used for the tanks previously, and .. well, this is what I found:

(click on the thumbnails to see the larger versions)

So .. anyhow .. the lesson I learned is that they were right. There is no such thing as a phantom GFCI trip for no reason. Well, it's not like I didn't agree with them it's just that I didn't realize that the problem could be the GFCI itself. The circuit was not overloaded I was careful to make sure of that.

Tony,
I am sure you are right. There got to be a electrical leak somewhere, just that it is not from the tank. I really got no control over it. At home all the tanks got dedicated circuit with individual GFI. When it shut off, it just shut off that outlet alone, not the entire circuit. I just cannot wire the circuit at work like that. From now on I will not keep any of my prize animals in the tanks at work.

BTW, you can see some of my dead SPS and my Green S. tapetum (maxi) in the picture above

Two new picture just now of my Gigantea. He is back to normal.

Looks great Minh. Sorry to hear about the GFI malfunction. Curious, is its foot attached to the rock as it appears or is it in a crevace below?

SIRENA,
I am not aware that Erik have a Magnifica in his store right now. Maybe he got one up from the valley store for you. Good luck.

Walt,
It attached to the side of the rock, on a smooth area of the rock. The foot is only about 4 inches and the oral disk is about 18 inches

this is a lil off topic but i was researching malu nems earlier and came across an old thread where someone had a pair that seemed to be spawning. was that you? if so, did they ever spawn successfully and produce offspring?

It was me and no I did not get any offspring from it.

Minh, what lighting do you have it under? Also, what sort of gph and type of powerhead. If vortech, what setting?
