Saddleback clown

Hello,

I just acquired a saddleback clown for my 40gal. He is a small little guy. I haven't seen too many posts on these clowns. Can you give me your experiences with them? Do they tend to be dominant/aggresive like maroons and tomatos or are they a bit more passive? How difficult would it be to try to pair him? I am considering getting a BTA in the future when the tank is more estalished; will Saddlebacks take host in BTA's? Any input welcome as well.
Thanks,

Rafael

If it is the same as mine( pics in the gall) The saddle willl host a bta. Mine a re awesmoe!!! Not at all like a GSM Not sure about paring, mine were wc and already paired!
Hope this helps !:bum:

I have a pair of saddleback. male 1in, female almost 2 in. They currently host in a carpet anemone. I used to have a bta and they alternate between the bta and carpet. And they are rough with anemone, but it should be ok f the anemone is 3x bigger than the clown. My female easily bosses my maroon in my tank. Im selling the maroon soon. And mines tooked about a day to be almost pair, and the second day they're sharing anemone.

Anemone was bleach at that time. Its getting greener now.

Thanks for the input and the pic! I really like this little guy. He looks just like the ones in your pic, littleshark. I worked in a fish store a few years back and the saddleback clowns we got in were different looking. More brown and with more of a saddle of a stripe over their dorsal. These are neat too. Thanks again,

Rafael

Yea. I really like my saddles. I like them way more than maroons and other clownfish, but im still getting a pair of percula for my 20 gallon. :) And saddles come in black and brown. The brown ones have less stripe. I personally like the black ones better but others maybe have their opinions. :) I would love to see a picture of your clowns if u dont mind.

Hey Littleshark,

Sorry for the delay but here are some pics of my clown. He is really small. I am ging to try to pair him up in the future. I also really want a true perc. I'm not sure if they would fight too much in this set-up (40br) so I may have to wait until I upgrade tanks. My tank is newly set-up and is going through its diatom bloom so it may look a bit sloppy.

Thanks for looking,

Wow, really nice saddleback you got there. Nice tank too. If your going to pair him up in the female, then get a small juvi and the saddleback you have now will turn into a female.

I had a pair, and they were really fun, i really like their personalities. They are not agressive at all compared to marrons, but they will defend their territory. The thing that i noticed is that at night time they get really scared of light. If the lights are off and you turn the light on, they will freak out, and if you shine a flashlight in the tank to see all the other critters in your tank that come out at night, they will try to jump out of your tank. Mine was really comfortable in my tank, would follow me around and eat out of my hand, but whenever the light shined in the tank they would freak out. so be carefull about that.

Hey a&cbowman,

I have noticed that also. He does seem to get stressed out a bit by lights. That is interesting. Hopefully he won't jump out before I upgrade to a tank with a canopy. Just curious, did you buy yours as a pair or did you introduce them.
Thanks for your input,

Rafael
