Sailfin Tang

Grizzled & Cynical
So the tang primer says an 8 foot tank for the sailfin tang, but I cannot fit a tank that long; 84" is my max. What's the prevailing opinion (or even better, experience) with a sailfin in a 7 foot tank? Much obliged!

How many tangs are you planning ? Which ones ? I had a desjardini and he was the meanest one out of 6 tangs. I took him out and since then everyone is happy. I currently have Achilles, pow blue, yellow, chevron, blonde naso in a 6 foot tank.

Well, I currently have two Regals, a purple and a yellow. Would like to add a red sea sailfin and then an Achilles.

What is the tank volume?

That combination of fish would likely be alright in a 7ft tank. A lot depends on feeding schedule, aquascape, and order of introduction with tangs. Also, if you plan to add an Achilles, be sure all fish have been properly quarantined and the display has sat fallow (if necessary) prior to introduction.

I've got a Marineland 265 on order. All fish have been, and will continue to be, obsessively quarantined.

Even with a tank that size I would plan on having to do something to possibly mitigate aggression when adding him to a tank with 2 established zebrasomas (especially the yellow)
