Sand bed calculator seems high

Im gonna go with a deeper sand bed this time around. Im thinking 3". The calculator just told me 338lbs for my 225 gallon. Does that seem like alot to anybody else? I have about 1' in my 125 and I dont remember puting very much in at all. Maybe its just been along time and I dont remember. Thoughts?

Does 338 lbs of corse sand weigh more than 338 lbs of fine sand ?

Sounds right one 5 gal bucket is about 40 lbs so about 8 5 gal buckets (best guess )

I think you will get less volume with fine sand as there is less space between grains so its more compact again I'm assuming

if you are using special grade reef sand you will need approx. 265 lbs

Up for suggestions. I was looking at the seaflor stuff.

seafloor stuff is sweet, I have sugar sugar sized sand in mine. I like the look but a pita to keep clean.
