SaraB's 268 Gallon Build¦ Try #3!

Looks like a nice fish list you have going there. Wrasses are one of my favorite fish, which ones are you going to add?

Please not the differences between the thickness, shape and color on the tail stripe of Acanthurus nigricans and an Acanthurus achilles hybrid:

It is interesting, though as the two fish would be completely opposite in location (achilles & Powder Blue) and chances of this happening in captivity are pretty slim to none :) It will have to be a mystery fish until it grows out...let's start a betting pool!

The tank is looking sweet! Glad to see things are starting to get moved in...

I'm so glad I got to read through your new build. This is some tank system.:D It is mind-boggling, quite the undertaking....kudos on a job well-done.
Look forward to seeing it progress... beautiful aquascaping too.

Thanks summer6! Your tank is simply stunning as well! I've got a new Miracles shallow lookdown tank on order too as a replacement of my 92G corner ... they seem to do some nice work!

Replacement? Replacement! You don't need a replacement. Keep the 92G and just add the new one as another system!!!! :D

Glad the anthias are doing well and eating.

I am so happy you found your other anthias alive when you got home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lisa

It was pretty cool last night as my 2 anthias that were living under the arch (the runt and the largest) decided to venture all the way to the left of the tank and find the other 6 hiding in the tall rock. It was a happy reunion and all came out and were swimming and eating. The runt somehow ended back up under the arch, but there was another pair swimming all over the tank after that. Looks like they are starting to get comfortable with the tank!

 I might have to move out in the back garage if I kept that one too. I was able to get the shallow look-down AND another frag tank for the basement ... so I'm still ahead of the game ;)

Thanks for the comparison photos fiji ... I can't wait to see what he turns into. My friend says we might have some better odds with betting on the Powerball lottery with the PBT and Achilles mix ... but ya never know :)

Hmmm, that might actually be a great deal based on what you have in your chalice collection! :eek2:

It's so hard to track down a female rhomboid or lineatus. I just love to see them in pairs swimming around in the tank.

I had purchased the rhomboid pair in an auction at Foster & Smith this last summer at their swap. The male somehow disappeard, so the male in the tank now is new and has not yet met his gal as she is still in my sump of the other system. I also got the pylie pair there in a silent auction.

I have had the supermale lineatus since the 2007 swap at F&S. It seems to be harder to find the female lineatus actually. I put in a special request for one and she will be added to the new tank on the 28th!

Sweet. That's what I am finding out also. Female lineatus don't come in much at all. I've seen rhomboid pairs here and there. Just a matter of timing, I guess.

Terrible photo as usual as they are swimming fast and there's lots of microbubbles as the surge had just fired. Here's the school of 7 anthias out swimming in the center of the tank. #8 is a runt and he hides in another area.

I definitely like those. I think I will try another school of anthias once I get all but one of the male barlett's out.

New Photos! I've been slowly adding corals onto the sandbed and will eventually need to arrange them. I also need to clean the acrylic good this weekend as well!

Here's the 2 fish buddies that swim together all day. I'm guessing I'm going to rock their world when I drop in "Big Boy" this weekend who is a 7" Naso. Also note the 4 SPS sticks in the front of the tank ... just got those in from KEEPERZ today:
