SaraB's 268 Gallon Build¦ Try #3!

Sara, that looks great! Let's see more pix as more corals/fish are introduced. It's always nice to see a tank come together.

Very nice Sara !!!! What size is your sand bed looks very good.

Thanks Jose! I actually have a real mixture of substrates. I started with the thought of doing at least a 5" DSB. I first put down a shallow bed of Aragamax Sugar Sized Sand for my rocks to stabilize on. I then changed my mind about the DSB and added some Arag-Alive Fiji Pink sand on top of that. I then added a layer of Tropic Eden Calcium Reactor Media on top of it all and mixed it in a bit to try and keep the sand stable for my surges.

Thanks Fredknack, reeferpnoy, Ryan009, Dejavu, mpoletti for the kind words!

Thanks Kenny! I'll try and do a better job of taking more photos ;) It's gonna be hard to keep up with you, Mark and Steve!

Looking good Sara! I am glad to see you are making progress. I am so happy for you. Finally it is all coming together.

Big Boy Added!

Big Boy Added!

Last night I added Big Boy to the tank. He's about a 7" Male Naso that has been living in my 70G Rubbermaid sump for a few months while the tank has been put together. I bought him from a local reefer and he came pre-named!

Here's a shot right after he was added to the tank. He went and laid down in the rocks for about a minute before swimming:

Here he is today out and about swimming:

Here's a size comparison with the hybrid PBT:

Thanks Mark! When I saw him I had to have him.

My poor anthias are acting like I dropped in a Great White Shark ... they are scared to death of this big beast now in their tank!

That's quite the fish list you have going. The PBT hybrid is a cute fish too. Are they hard to come by?

I really like your scape. That arch on the right side is great. How much of your rock is Marco Rock?

Thanks,
Paul

Thank you Paul! I got the hybrid PBT from LiveAquaria's Divers Den. They had not seen one like it, so not sure how hard they are to find. If you read a few pages back there's plenty of conversation on what exactly he is. I guess only time will tell when he grows up.

About 90% of the rock in the display is Marco Rock. The large rock on the left is one as well as the entire arch which is made of 2 rocks and one other large piece in there on the right.

Things are shaping up nicely Sara. Especially love all the gorgeous fish your going to have in this. Will look fantastic when all the corals are added and grow in there. will have an extremely nice looking tank.

On a side note do you have any pictures of your surge tanks or videos of them running? How do you like them so far? I will talk to you more about them this weekend at the goodie store! :d I have been talking to Lisa about them and think I will incorporate them into my 240 build.

Eric
