SC 150 skimmer review pics

Using the 302 for a year now and not a fan. i found very tempermental with overflowing. sitting in around 7" dialed in at about 3 and it doesnt pull consistent. go over 3 it will skim wet and you never know when it will overflow.
with nitrates at 60 i'd figure a skimmer should be pulling consistent junk and i havent been able to get this thing to do it yet. at the very least i'll be looking at a mod or two for this thing.
it's still quiet and the pump seems to be holding up fine.

I bought the sca-302 and i think i put it together right. Anyways, Its been in my sump about a week and It wont stop overflowing my collection cup even on the lowest setting. what can I do? what could it be? 8 1/2 inches of water btw

Please help me out

Back in the thread I read some people would find it would always overflow if they put in dt coral food or something. Another thing was switching the tube around. Another thing you can try is restrict the air flow a bit or add more maybe it's clogging. Another try is lower the water level from 8.5" to 6". That will create more back pressure and possibly reduce water flow or increase it.

I just ordered the sc-180 and he shipped it within an hour with the tracking nbr!

Just ordered the 301 like everyone I like to have my aquarium choices checked and rechecked by all the RC posters. Wondering after the fact if the 301 is suitable for a 40 gal breeder with a 25 gallon sump. Just need the ok from RC as I already bought this and it gets here Saturday.

I have used a 301 on my 75 gal total system with zero issues. i am upgrading to a 302 as we speak because your tank can never be too clean. infact im skeptical that the 302 will out produce my 301.... we will see

i would get a half gallon black sludge in about 7 days average. wet skim water changes are a cinch with this thing.... i have used several skimmer and by far SCA has well exceeded my expectations. oh and i feed phytofeast, oyster feast, and a mixed blend of frozen foods 1-2x every day. it always pulls out the excess.

to answer your question.. yes it will handle your 65 gallons

Also i hear of all these issues after they get it...

the thing needs to cycle. I faught with this skimmer for about 1-2 weeks before it finally broke in... over flowing, not skimming, inconsistant foam. also remember that it still has factory oil on it that will cause issues as well.

after it finally broke in i havent really had an issue with my 301 since. my 302 will come in the mail hopeuflly by friday. I am excited to see what the 302 can do.

i hooked my my last one to drain into a large half gallon res.... woah.. never again collection cup dumping. dont have to mess with the skimmer unless its monthly cleaning time. and i found the less i touch the thing the better and better it skims with age. 3-4 weeks max with out cleaning and it skims like an olympic champ.

Just recieved mine today. I plugged it in and immediately it started to make some nice foam at the top. Then later after about an hour the foam collapsed and the bubbles just kept popping as if there was oil in it. So I unplugged it and turned it back on then immediately it produced a nice foam head. Anyone know this reason?

I should add that now it seems the air and water that travels down and back out the tube seems to be above the red turbulence disk, where before it was below the turbulence disk/cup. And now there is less microbubble a flowing out. I think it's pulling more air and less water now that I restarted it.

I have a 302 which I was happy with. I thought I should clean it since it was in operation for 6 months. The impeller was loose so I used a drop of crazy glue to fix it. Since then when I stop and start the skimmer, the foaming does not start. It starts when I blow into the air intake. After that it works fine. I cleaned everything multiple times with no success, the suction is not there. I was stopping my skimmer when I feed but with that problem I stopped doing that. It is hard to get your head into the stand and blow that pipe.😀

My SC-302 is still going strong after 3 years of use. Still original pump and impeller. It's still running quiet.

Haven't really had to make adjustments, unless I want dryer or wetter skimmate. Maintenance has been: Unplug, remove cup, clean cup, reinstall cup and plug back in. Maybe once or twice a year, take apart completely and clean, re-assemble and plug in.

Been running mine for a few years now and have just developed a problem: The pump won't restart on its own anymore. I have to loosen the impeller cover to get it going.

Wow this thread is still going as are these skimmers. I am allsps40 back from the dead with a new name and setting up a new reef tank. Will a sca 302 skimmer end up in my sump? We will see.....

Those are it and they are amazing. I have one on each of my tanks. The are a BubbleMag knock off and work like crazy. I bought one for $70 used and the other for $50. This is going on 4 years ago now and still pull crap out like they are brand new. Well worth the money. Get one, you'll be happy that you did.

Each of my tanks use a 20L sump. One tank is a 30L (48x12x12) and the other is a custom 45g I built myself (40x24x12).

Been running this skimmer for a few months now on my new 90 gallon, which is very heavy stocked.

Having a hard time with consistency. When I run it a little dry, I get almost nothing in the cup, with a ton of sludge build up. Its working well, just needs a lot of cleaning.

If I run it a little wet, its great, but have overflows fairly often.

The settings are just over 3 -3.5. In in about 8.25-8.5 of water. Any suggestions?

Also, what is the diameter of the large cup vs. the standard cup?

These skimmers are so cheap i had to try one.
