Schnitzel's Sticks

Schnitzel's Sticks

Tank is looking sweet Nick! What would you say contributed most to your tanks success? I remember you were struggling with pale corals. I'll be setting up a 360g soon so any advice is much appreciated.

I think running a calcium reactor is one of top 3 reasons my tank does so well. Once you understand how they work, it's hard to screw things up. Keeps alk so stable, sps just love it.
Also changing my lights from LEDs to T5s was the single best decision I ever made. Had I ran T5s from the start, my corals would probably be twice as big. They never thrived in my tank with leds. They were alive, some grew, some were colorful, but as a majority they were def lacking something.

Take the time to research what works best before you get your tank wet. I read a TON before I setup my tank. Which sump designs work best, which skimmers work best, heaters, return pumps etc etc. Find people that are successful and read their threads, and try not to make the same mistakes they made. There was many weekends I would wake up, find a beautiful sps tank, and read the whole thread start to finish. (Sometimes taking hours). You see a lot of people that have equipment failure and cause tank crashes. That was one thing I tried my hardest to do right from the beginning. Do the plumbing the right way, find a good ATO, a quality return pump, quality heaters. Etc etc. You see people spending thousands of dollars on corals, meanwhile they have a $10 used heater break and wipe out their tank. Invest in your tank now, and save for the nice corals later.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the key to success is buying the most expensive equipment. Whether you are using Vortech pumps or Korallia, make sure you have the proper flow for which ever corals you are keeping.

Do you think your lack of nutrients were the culprit to the dull colors and adding kno3 to the tank contributed to the colorful sticks you have now or due to you attribute that to the light change?

All my equipment is top notch and some left over from my previous tank. I'll be running GHL dosers along with the KH guardian. That should keep my alk very stable.

I got me a new camera tube. The old Avast Marine tubes came in white, and would cause a glare. Newer style should keep the glare out!

Awesome Pics Schnitzel! I am a bit to the north of you but make it south from time to time, if you ever allow visitors, I'd love to check out the collection sometime. Keep up the great work and keep posting the eye candy!

Those photos from the new camera looks wickedly nice.
What lens do you use?

I use only the best of the best. My lens cost me about $1500.
hahahahha. JK
Whatever the stock lens that comes with a canon T3i. I think it's 18-55 or something like that.

Not nice compared to your tank shots. Haha

And what do you use to take pics? This was taken with a canon t3i with the stock 18-55 lens. And I set the camera to auto mode. No skill. The corals do all the work. Hahahha

My calcium reactor was running low on media, so I tore it apart and added new media. I used to use Caribsea and Neomag, but I decided to switch to TLF Reborn and Remag. The media lasted about 1.5 years.

Oh man, your tank is looking great! You've got so many amazing corals, that orange mille is crazy
