Hey matey. Thought I'd drop in and see whats happening with one of my favorite sps tank. Watched the video mate and thoroughly enjoyed watching every second of the video.

Seriously mate, your tank is truly inspirational. Keep up the great work and keep the photos and videos coming-we'd never get tired of seeing your tank :spin1:

Hey sahin it's good to hear from you my friend I've been wondering where you've been hiding :) Thank you mate I'm glad you enjoyed it

Love This Tank:)

Thank you Helge :)

Fishy that was the video that was on my TOTM thread buddy :)

Simply amazing !!! :spin2:

One quick question and I apologize if you have already answered it.

How do you control N & P ?

Thank you Angelos :)

N is controlled with only WC, I've never really had an issue with N so I've never really needed to find another way of controlling it as it always tests at .2
P is controlled with Rowaphos, it lasts in between 2-3 months before it needs to be changed out :)

Scotty

I think its time for an update Scott:), with pics:D

Haven't been around much lately Rory I've been a bit busy :) but the tank has had a few issues as of late, I had an ALK spike from out of the blue a few weeks back but luckily everyday I do surveillance and noticed something was up. ALK went from 7.0 to 10.2 and the only thing I could put it down to was a bad batch of salt. The only ill effects that I've seen have been a slight loss of colour mainly on my red and orange monti and my thick lime stag that suffered some burnt patches but other than that all else seems fine.
Issue number 2 was my Red Dragon skimmer pump for some reason decided to give up the ghost and fry itself in the sump! It left a burnt electrical smell through the house and managed to shut out the power too. :uzi: luckily I was home at the time but I didn't have any water on hand so I put some fresh carbon in my reactor and some how luckily managed to hunt down a skimmer pump from a supplier which arrived the next day from Queensland. One thing I must say is that I am now completely disappointed in Royal Exclusiv products! You pay the extra money for a premium product that you look after and clean very regularly only to have it fail after 20 months of use! So if it does so happen to do it again I won't be paying the price for a new skimmer pump again!

Some pics I took with the iPhone last night

The tank looks very colorful to me mate:). That's a bugger about the pump, you pay the extra for a top product and it doesn't deliver, very sad:(

Bummer about the pump Scotty, at least you got 20 months I only got 7 months out of mine before it stopped working. What pump did you have, was it the BK 1000 skimmer pump.I think you have the same skimmer as me.Your tanks looking great as always. :)

Yes it's coming back buddy as it was a couple of weeks ago but still my red and orange monti haven't regained their full colour. Yes I was very disappointed in the product also mate! Why pay the extra $$$ IMO

Wow. What a beautiful tank

Thank you very much

Hey kipper and thank you :) I've been hearing of quite a few lately blowing up mate so it makes you question spending the extra $$$! I had the BK Red Dragon 1500 and the only reason I bought another one was because Reef Secrets had one in stock and they did it for a really good price. Next time I'll just replace the skimmer and won't bother with the pump. I was the first person to talk up BK skimmers but this has been a total let down

Tanks still looks fantastic, even with the set backs..
What a crazy hobby.. It takes such vigilance. And even when you watch the tank like a hawk, you can only plan and watch for so many things and there are so many more possible things that can go wrong..
We are an odd bunch, us reefers.. We invest so much $ and faith in things we try to control absolutely, but really cannot control completely...

Tank looks amazing my friend..the Dc pumps do have a lot of problems what problem did you have with yours..

Looks great. Sorry about the pump troubles but at least the steady surveillance detected it. :)

Thank you Mark, the pump was a disappointment mate I expected a longer life span from a RE product but these things happen I guess :) the ALK spike was lucky that I monitor daily and picked it up when I did :D

Thank you Matt :) I agree mate you can only plan for so many things to go wrong and only monitor so many things, but we can never see or tell what piece of equipment is going to fail. Your right about that also we fork vast amounts of cash and put faith in all these little gadgets to keep our tanks alive  it's a crazy hobby when you lay it all out like that but I've learnt 2 lessons as of late!

1- Battery Back Up systems are worth their weight in gold

2- never become complacent because you never know what problem is lurking around the corner!

Thank you Dan :) that's the thing it wasn't the DC pump model it was the stock standard Red Dragon pump. It fried the motor block which caused the tank and the house to smell like burnt electrical and also shut off the power to the house, luckily I have a DIY BBU which kicked in and kept the tank running :)
