Scotty,

Absolutely amazing reef, well done mate.

Would you mind telling me a little about your feeding regime ?
How much food does it take to keep nutrients present in a tank with so many hungry mouths to feed ?
What do they like to chow down on ?

Do you make a point of feeding as lights come down ?
Do you stimulate a feeding response, prior to actually feeding ? amino or vinegar to get them responding ?

Thanks

Vince

I will take what ever you hack my friend. So nice love the pics.

Thank you buddy :) you know I'd happily give them to you if possible ;)

Thank you Vince

My feeding regime is very simple as I only feed my fish once a day. 2-3 blocks of frozen food plus a small amount of New Era algae pellets. That seems to be my balance between keeping my fish fat and healthy but at the same time keeping the nutrient at a good level.

The fish are always fed about an hour before lights out every night and I've never dosed Aminos, vinegar or anything else into the tank. The Only supps that go into the tank are Randy's recipe Alk, Cal & Mag via a dosing pump and I hand dose Zeovit K-balance strong to up Potassium when needed.

Thanks again Scotty

Everything is looking better than ever Scotty! Always a joy to see updated pics of your tank. :eek1:

Thank you very much Conor :D

I was hoping that you'd show us some kind if disaster ,so i could burry my hate for you scotty but things look sooooooo good and tbh i'm glad i can keep my hate for you alive:p

Amazing job buddy:beer:
Your tank reaches month by month, that level of maturity that makes it amazing!!!
Thanks for the pics!

How long do you have your gold rim?
Your quasimodo(mystery) is new?

Thanks Scotty,

I had it in my mind that you would have to feed a lot more to keep your corals looking so healthy, but they are obviously getting most of their energy from the lights.

I have seen so many trends over the years, with some choosing to feed huge amounts of food as the tank matures, going back to the days when Luc Loyen (jawsee) was running his huge SPS tank, he got to the stage of feeding up to a couple of blister packs a day, just to maintain some nutrients in the tank, it seems the metabolic rate of his aquarium was huge and then on the flip side, you ave the Triton show tank, also brimming with sps, that only feed a few cubes a day.

It really interests me to see how different tanks respond and how important heterotrophic feeding is for the health of corals.

Which ever way you roll, I am sure it is more about the balance within the system.

Thanks

Vince

Hahahaha sorry to disappoint you buddy ;)

The goldrim I've had for about 18 months now, he's a model citizen and just about my fav in the tank I reckon :)
The mystery I've had for a long time now, I used to have a pair but one went carpet surfing :( they were a very cool pair too!

Thanks Scotty,

Well I can guarantee you one thing, even though I'm not feeding a lot everything is extremely healthy in the fish and coral department. There was a stage when the tank wasn't that old that I was exchanging rowaphos regularly, I was also feeding 10 blocks of frozen a day to try keep my huge amount of Anthia fed but the tank just doesn't need the rowa exchanged as often anymore so no reason to feed so much to keep nutrients at a good level. WC seems to keep the nutrient under control these days :)
