I have an old Euroreef 6-1 that the Sedra burned up in.

I need to aquire a used one, a source for a new one, or a proven direct replacement for the old SP2.

Any ideas?

TIA, Doug

Just my luck it would be a $100 pump, thanks Karl.

The good thing is that my tank is so nutrient poor, it won't hurt me that bad to take a while to make up my mind.

I had a scare a couple of weeks ago, I got some sugar cubes and began throwing one in a day and at the same time starting feeding a concoction of Reef Nutrition, cubed mysid, cyclopeeze, DTs Phyto, and PE mysid.........

I got a LARGE surge of growth, almost could watch it.....it was so fast, the tips got exposed like reverse RTN from the top and was freaking me out..........everything grew about an 1/8" in one week both by encrusting and tip. The tissue finaly caught back up, but stuff grew so fast it appears to be bleaching and receeding.

The loinsetta that I got from Justin a while back looked white, but because of the coralite structure, popped new growth all over the base to make it appear that way.

freaked me out so bad I ended up buying another 6-5gal jugs (12 total now) and changing out 60gals.

In other discoveries, the no light for two or three days works well, most know about my hatred of Chemiclean. I was getting some Cyano.....in high flow, high light areas, so don't believe its low flow persistant by any means..........three days not light........GONE!!!!......along with other bad algae.......

This Sedra must have been putting out some heat, it seems my tank has been 1-2 degrees cooler the last couple of days..........but I did shift my lights to save money on electricity and cool it during the hot days. Heck, my heater was on yesterday.....hehehehe

Yeah, I'm sure the sedra was definetly putting out heat.

If there is excess calcium build up on impeller, the obvious result is more friction. The friction leads to heat, the heat leads to the magnet swelling, then that will lead to a frozen impeller which eventually burns the motor out :(

You also may want to look into the DAS AB2001 NW pumps as a replacement. Right around the same price as your sp2, but its the same pump that Deltec and H&S use on their smaller skimmers.

Good luck bro :D

I was hoping you would chime in, you seem to be the guru on these things and have put in the time already and was wanting to take advantage of that experience.

Thanks man!!!!!

The pump has lasted two years and I cleaned it regularly. I had noticed in the last couple of months it was not putting out as much foam, but had contributed that fact to my top notch husbandry......:D

Its the last of my old pumps and will be in a new rotation now.

So Jim and Doug. I wouldn't mind upgrading my original pump on my CS-2. It is about a year and a half old. Can I go with a more heat effective pump? Doug, If it works and I do upgrade- you can get my old one.

No prob Doug. I definetly have a strange obession with skimmers

Mark,

On your 6-2, your best alternative is the DAS pump. I'm not sure what type of plumbing you'll need to do to attach (they might have metric fittings) but I'm sure there's a way to connect it to your skimmer.

If you had an 8" bodied skimmer, I'd go with an eheim :)

Eheim...Hmmm....1262 :D

I was thinking of that one as well and remembered a mod he had done a while back using one.

About a year ago, I needed to replace my burned out Sedra 3500 for my Euroreef.

I thought Euroreef's replacement quote was overpriced.

Bought a new pump with new needle wheel for $80.

Salty Critter was a good vendor (and now a RC sponsor). I would buy from them again.

Even though Euroreef made me think their needle wheel was "special", they looked the same to me.

Best of luck,

Roy
