Serpent star Killed?

I found my serpent star teared off, like something attacked it.

is this possible or it just died and it's coming apart?

Wow thats rough. Is it still alive? If so I would give it time to heal. Definately looks like something got it. What else you got in there? Looks like a coral banded shrimp hiding under the toadstool.

yes, coral banded shrimp and I also have an eel.

I had to remove it last night, it looked like it was in real bad condition. I didn't want to take a chance contaminating the tank.
