Setting up a 180

Looking great! Thanks for posting the photos.... it's so cute to see those tiny fish in there LoL! Did you place your order yet?

NanoGurl...I am so glad your back:D Your very welcome for the pics, I didn't place the order yet because they did not have all that I was looking for at this time. I did however pick up a fire shrimp tonight from a LFS, but all the lights were off so I couldn't get a picture.

My GBTA is acting like your RBTA:mad: It has found it's way down between the rocks and is hard to see and feed. But my RBTA has seemed to settle down and is easy to see and feed.

I have been checking out your thread, the participation is incredible :eek1: You have done a very good job of keeping everyones interest and seem to have made many friends (me included;) ).

I'm baaaaaaack! No really, I haven't gone anywhere just been busy and nothing interesting is going on with my tank right now.

Cool! Fireshrimps are the best I think. Sorry to hear about your GBTA.. that's one thing that really sucks about anemones! Good news about the RBTA.

How is the PB doing? Are the two tangs getting along still? How's the family enjoying the tank?

Thanks about my thread! It's fun. Is that a nice way of saying I'm looooooney MP!!! =) Maybe everyone just likes watching what I'll say or do next!

Seriously though, I love your tank and am jealous. Can't wait to see what else goes in next!

 I know all about busy, but you have got more on your plate than I do, so thank you for finding time to post:)

I can still see the GBTA but it's in a hard to get to spot but I haven't even seen the fire shrimp since it was placed in the tank. Didn't even come out with the afternoon feeding, I paid quite a bit for it so I am a bit worried at this point.

PB is doing AWESOME! She (I think it's a she) eats all the time! When I get near the tank, there she is begging for more  She gets along with all the other fish but has a special bond with the other tang, those 2 are almost inseparable.

Thanks about my thread! It's fun. Is that a nice way of saying I'm looooooney MP!!! =) Maybe everyone just likes watching what I'll say or do next!

You looney, a little bit Tooney:rollface: Sorry NG, I couldn't resist:D Everyone likes your good natured fun and the pics of your sugergliders, dog, tank and your upcoming house project, all of which are very interesting:)

Seriously though, I love your tank and am jealous. Can't wait to see what else goes in next!

Thank you NG, PLEASE don't be jealous.....well you can be a little jealous;) Just kidding, I have said it before and I will say it again, your tank is done better than mine. You have done an outstanding job with that tank....but I am catching up:lol:

WOW, that didn't work the way I wanted it to. Hopefully everyone can tell where my reply quotes are.

I feel a little :hmm2: humbled.

How in the world did you do THAT? <L>

Anyways, tanks looking good!! Have you had anymore heat issues with the new lights again?
I tried going back through your posts, but (dial-up connection here!) Is your tank open top? or is it covered?

I placed my reply for each within the quote which is why it posted as it did. I knew better but did it anyway

Thanks 2farNorth, the top is open and yes the light produces a lot of heat. But I have reduced the high temp of the tank to 81.6 by opening the doors and placing a box fan in front of the sump set on 2 of 3 settings.

I am thinking of getting an exhaust fan and duct work to help get rid of the heat, and place a fan to blow from the opposite side of the fan across the light fixture. Hopefully that will help:hmm2:

LoL... They're furry, they're funny, they're Babs and Buster Bunny... *crazy girl face* hehehehe. I love that song! Good Feathers are the best.

Thanks =) Did you find your fire shrimp yet? I'm sure he's just freaked out. My tang is a pig too! Are you still happy you went with the Powder Brown? I think it was a great choice!

You're def catching up! :D

You are the best!!!! I used to love watching
pinky and the brain - and I don't mind saying it:p

Yes I found Mr. Fire shrimp, he is extremely shy.
He hides within the rocks on the left side, I saw
him cleaning the PB last night around 10:30 but was
only within the rocks . I would love to be able to
take a picture of him in action.

Am I happy with PB.... You bet I AM, it is an
eating machine and when ever someone goes near
the tank it comes over to greet them. I had to pick up
some salt from a lfs, they had a medium sized naso for
sale but I really like the look and personality of PB.

I must say this whole tank upgrade project has been
so worth the time and money put into it. My goal was
to make the tank inhabitants as happy as they can be.
I think and hope they are.

Here are the RBTA, GBTA and porcelain crab under actinics.

MP: Are you pondering what I'm pondering NG?

NG: I think so MP, but *snort* no no it's too stupid.

MP: We will disguise ourselves as a cow.

NG: NARF! That was it exactly.

=)

Glad to hear everyone is happy :) That was also my goal, to create a tank that was happy and not just crammed full. The photos are cute! I know they are loving all that space.

Looks like your setup is coming along nicely. Do you have any info on your Calcium reactor. How is it working. I have thinking about starting one for my new tank. Di you post a thread on building it?

Hey there Erics3000, thanks!

I modeled the calcium reactor from those made by lifereef and PM. I have access to a 3 axis milling machine at work and used it to make the bottom and top plates. Everything else was purchased online or bought at Menards or Home Depot.

Having built that one I can say the next one would be built much better and quicker. It cost about $125 in supplies to make, not including the cost of the co2 tank, regulator and PH controller.

I just could not see spending $300+ for just the calcium reactor and I knew I could build it as well as those others at a much cheaper price.

I do have pictures of some of the construction of it but I didn't post them in the diy forum.

Lets see the pics? What would you change?

Well ok then, pics it is:)

Picture of 12"h x 6" x .125"T cast acrylic tube "mcmastercarr"
Seated in .125" cast acrylic sheet "mcmastercarr" glued with
weldon #16.

I would go with .250" Thick for second try but more expensive.

100_0566.jpg

Nylon block glued with weldon #40

second try: clear pvc saddle T.

100_0576.jpg

Bottom plate for support of A.R.M.

100_0572.jpg

Top cover assembly fastened with 8 stainless steel
nuts and bolts "had to increase to 16 because of leaks"

Second try: use 12 holes, should have this time
but tried to cut corners.

100_0574.jpg

Top of cover assembly

100_0575.jpg

front view finished.

100_0579.jpg

side view.

In the back ground you will notice a second piece
of acrylic tube, It cracked while drilling, to much pressure
and not enough drill speed.
