i have a nano cube 24, with 72w power compact flourescent, anmd i know these lights are pretty pathetic, but is there any type of anemone that could be ok in this. some people suggest BTA's. should i just forget it?? i want my clowns to host something

IMO i would not attempt any anemone under that kind of lighting in a 24 gallon. I would upgrade to a MH hang on the tank light, like a viper HQI or something along those lines. Good luck.

New lights and definately wait until the tank matures, normally 6-8 months.

BTA's don't get huge fast so it should be OK until you upgrade to a larger tank. Not ideal, but OK. Oh, and thanks for doing research before jumping in.

well i have been looking around, and it turns out that the new nano cube is coming out, and if you own the old one, you can upgrade to 150wmh, so i will try and buy that, then i iwll go for the anemone. sound good???

There are other things that clowns will host in as well, at least our occell.'s did before we got an anemone. They like the anthelia (but it didn't like them) and I've heard that they like leathers too. A leather might be something that a newer (not new) tank could handle, and they're not so light demanding.

I also commend you for doing the reasearch first! We just got a bta yesterday, and even after months of waiting and reading, I'm still a little anxious!

i have a toadstool leather, and i have aimed a torch, so it is keeping it illuminated, this is making the 2 clowns stay in that area, so hopefully they will host

These kinds don't seem to be so picky, at least mine aren't and they hosted anthelia, corners, magfloats, powerheads, and any wavy coral they could locate.
You've probably got a good chance of them hosting the toadstool, not a guarantee by any means, but not a bad chance.

Good luck!

they do host a corner a bit, but wile the torch was one, they wouldn't move from the toadstool, but they werten't in it, they were just hovering over it

I disagree, for BTA you don't HH for them to thrive. I have just power compacts on mine & they are doing well. I have had them for 4+ years. I have been running only 10k for the past 3-4 months....ballast fried.

I have had SPS corals in my JBL Nano cube delux as well. What people forget is depth. A smaller tank is closer to the light source.

In my 125 gallon w/ the power compacts, all of my anemones are at the very top of the tank. If I do a 25 gallon water change they get exposed to the air. So just put him near the top & you should be fine.
IMO!
:)

I think the issue was not if PC could have them survive, I think it was more a question of amount of PC...3W/G is not that much.

I have no opinion either way, because I keep them under PC, but my PC is 192W over 30G, so over 6W/G.

I have PC's 2X96W X's 2 lights. So a total of 4 bulbs. One that is dual & a 2nd that is dual.

Is that 384 watts total or is it 192 watts total?

I'm either at 3watts per gallon or 1.5 watts per gallon.

mentioning that viper hqi. there an online vendor for those? my LFS wants like 200 bux for one of those...
