Show me how to stop those carpet surfers!

Hello all, I was wondering if everyone could show off some of their ideas for 'covering' open top tanks to keep those jumpy fish species from becoming carpet crispies. I'm aware of the quick fix egg crate method.. just looking for some more aesthetically pleasing options. Thanks in advace- Dom

I order some clear mesh. Then used a home depot window screen kit to make the tops for my tank.


They fit perfect, and best part is they don't blaok any light like egg crate will.


I got the clear screen for my 180 Gallon for $19 Shipped, then got the screen kit from Home Depot. I can't remember how much the kit was, but it couldn't have been all that expensive.

You need quarter inch holes so egg crate will not work.

ditto on the clear mesh top. The moonlight will not stop them from jumping.

moonlights and eggcrate do NOT stop jumpers. A diy mesh top or glass tops are your best bet to keep jumpers contained. Personally i would do a mesh top to encourage gas exchange.
