Snagged this recently as I am on a scoly kick. True Red

Marco, that Red Planet was in my old tank, which had Radiums running on HQI ballasts as well as T5s. With my new tank I am using 400W Radiums running on Luxcore selectable ballasts. I use the "Super Lumens" setting, which overdrives it a bit versus the normal 400W setting (you can see more about my lighting setup here: http://reefbum.com/my-setup/lighting/). It does not overdrive the bulb like a true HQI ballast but it is about as close as you can get.

My fixtures on the new tank also have T5s. Still not totally convinced about using LEDs for a SPS dominant tank, but that is not to say that they don't work. Folks have obviously had success, but at this point I am sticking with what has worked in the past.

Actually that's a really soft image. I'll take another this weekend and turn off some pumps. That's with about 2K GPH going over it.

Canon 7D with Canon 180 Macro 1/250 @ F/11 and Custom white balance.



My shot is color accurate but not that red, yet.

BigE's are shot under ATI Blue Plus and Coral Plus, if my memory serves me correctly and I'm sure that's very close to what you'd see in person.

Red corals are not common but are out there. They tend to be deeper water corals.

Oh, I'm not saying people on here a photo shopping the red in, I'm just saying that they're rare. Most of the "red" sps are not truly red, someone just named them red and put a big price tag on it. When I say red, I mean red like on dom's deepwater acro, and the red highlights on his abro. I wish they'd get stuff like that in where I live, I have yet to see an sps with those colors in 7 or so years of poking around stores here.

I must admit coming across true red red acro's doesn't happen very often, not unless you're willing to pay the right price for them! haha few red monti's but not so many acro's, which is why I've shared this piece around to so many tanks already! Safe-guarding a potential catastrophe and also because who wouldn't want a piece haha

A Jedi that likes NSW and high flow. The colony it was fragged from looked like a 15" diameter flying saucer. The frag I got was about 1/2" square and maybe 1/4" thick at most.

This is 9 months later. 6" diameter, about 3-4" thick and twice the polyps the mother colony has to this day. It sits in about 3.5K GPH so the photos not sharp. I need to take a better photo with pumps off but at least you can get the color.

I call it my Happy Jedi.

I don't think anyone posted their convexa yet, its no firetruck acro (WOW!), but its the red-ist SPS I've ever had.

My red planet was always more of a pink than a red.
