Great thread, guys. I'm thinking of getting a 60gal cube myself. Would a single 250W DE light it ok, or would I need to go to 400W with 24" depth?

You should go with the 250 watt.

I run a 400 w on my cube but mine is 30 inches deep.
Although I love the look, If I had it to do over I would not go so deep as it is hard to reach the bottom if you need to pick up a fallen frag or something.

here is my "cubish" tank, 36x24x24 (hey 2 sides are the same ;) )

...still in progress.. gotta move stuff away from each other and start gluing stuff down this week.

I'm running 2x250w DE Hellio 20k.

Nice tank. Do you have any additional pix? What size sump/refugium do you use, and is it located under the tank.

I'm going to be upgrading my office tank and your cube is one of my options with the other being a 48 x 36 x 24. Not a true cube, but the depth would be pretty cool.

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, I don't really have to many pics yet I just took that one last nite. After I finish gluining everything in place I'll start taking more pics. Sump is a 29gallon tank, it's under the tank in stand. I'm running a g3 skimmer, ultraC calicium reactor, 2000 gph return pump which i had to slow down it was overpowering my overflow.

Here is my sad cube. It started out ok, but now I can't get it right....I don't have a skimmer, but I do have a fuge hanging on the back. Maybe I don't have enough flow? I have a small sump underneath, but it's really just there so I can do water changes. Maybe you could offer some suggestions?

I had a seaclone underneath but it kept causing too many bubbles to go back into the tank...so I bagged it. I hate the way the overflow looks but it was the only other thing I could do to get rid of the surface scum.

Alright, here's my cube tank:

The display area is a 24"x24"x24" Cube, but the actual tank is 30" deep. Lighting is provided by a 250W DE 20000K AB bulb in a SLS RO3+ Pendants on a PFO HQI ballast.

brahm, the most important question that was overlooked in this thread is: Can I stay at your house sometime soon?! :) All this snow is driving me crazy!

Thanks for the reply. When you take some more pix, would you please snap one or two of the sump/CA reactor and everything else under the tank.

My biggest concern is lack of space under the tank.

Thanks again.

Mache62: if it were me ... I'd replace the HOB fuge w/ an overflow box (something like a lifereef w/ an interior box that will help get rid of any film on the surface of your water) and custom build a sump w/ a fuge. For skimmers nothing beats a euroreef IMO. http://www.melevsreef.com/ has some really good info on building a custom sump.
