I just wanted to add that I used travertine pavers from home depot for the base support for mine. Travertine is aragonite. Is a nice white color and is easy to drill.

Here is the pillars I am going to use in my 75g. Well, at least the one on the left. I have a second one just like it now to go on the right. I'll post again once they are in the tank which hopefully will be soon.

For those of you who have changed your system rockwork from a pile to pillars, how did you deal with your livestock? Did your leave fish and inverts in tank? Did you chip all corals off of rock? Also how did you deal with the sand already in your tank? I would like to change my big pile of rocks to two pillars with one side with sps and the other with soft with the middle empty for lps. Also for those of you have larger rocks, did you break them in half or do you just keep them as is. I originally used 50 pounds of Marco Fiji rock two years ago and some of the pieces are somewhat large for my 75 mixed reef. Thanks for help.

How would this work with rock already in your DT? In other words, if I moved and wanted to do the pillar thing upon setting back up, how long would I be able to have each piece out of the water for drilling? Most of my pieces are large and HEAVY (now regretting the tonga rock decision) and I may break some in half. Is this as simple as a hammer and screwdriver? And how do you all go about 'drilling' your live rock?

Will drilling my current rock make any kind of 'die off' or 'cycle' when I add it back to the tank?

Thanks!
