Show me your S. Tapetum!

Can anyone with a Maxi comment on whether they multiply at all in captivity (babies, splitting etc...). I have seen someone in the another Nano forum literally cut them in half with great success but I have also heard that they do not split naturally...

maxi mini tapetum might split but I've never seen or heard of it happening. There are documented accounts of maxi minis spawning in captivity.

OTOH "mini" mini tapetum are prolific and split quite regularly.

I have seen a couple of regular sellers of the maxis on Ebay. Are they just cutting them up? b/c I know they are not wild...

During some major tank downsizing, all my Maxi's were transfered from high organic clown spawning tank conditions to SPS tank conditions: All 4 split within the first week and then recovered. They have not split since and they had never split in the couple of years I had them.

My guess, the Maxi's may split under stressful conditions or dramatic environmental changes.

this would make sense. Congrats, Scott!
Not sure my friend holding the specimens was quite as pleased with the news as us the anemone keepers. I had advised him my 4 had not moved in months/years and never split.... post introduction, they all moved out of the long standing cave/clefts, split, and wandered all over the place for a few weeks. Oooops

LOL. ... at which point you simply stated "that never happened while I was taking care of them. What are you doing wrong?"... right?

One time I added two part additive too quick (mixed and dump it in one part at a time) my Maxi stressed out and become detached for 2 days but he recovered without splitting. I added two part additive much slower these days. My green Maxi is about 6 inches at this time. I had three others about 2-4 inches also but not in the same tank.
I add a few Mini from gary a few years ago and they are all over the place. The mini are very hardy and somewhat insignificant. They only get to about 1/2 inch in my tank

I have a bunch of these, too. I just noticed a few weeks ago that they divided like crazy and were everywhere (the minis) and got rid of some of them.

Beautiful little anemones. Traveller7, I wonder if mine are the same stock as yours? I can't remember where or when I got them, just that there are a lot of them in one part of my tank.

Also. I found a very good thread and tutorial on nanoreef on cutting the maxi's in 2 like a shroom. So I guess thats how the suppliers get them...

Something like that :)

More like, "I told you you kept your water conditions too clean, those poor things were used to sewage!"
