scarab65,

you have a passer angel in a 100 gal sps tank - withotu any problems? I thought the passer would be a coral munching machine!!!

Fab looking fish - one of my favourites, but always been afraid of its reputation as a mean spirited fish.

Regards,

MAtt

Hey Matt,

Good citizen this passer so far. Not friendly with meaty LPS like scolymia or cynarina but so far fine with SPS.

Before adding large angels, few things you need to ensure.

Get a specimen that is feeding and feeding well. Pellet eating specimens are the best as it is easiest to feed pellets IMO as compare with other type of foods.

Be prepare to feed a lot in your tank. So some corals might lose their colour. Else you will have some crunched tips here and there but no biggie. When the angels are full, they tend to be less peckish

Make sure your skimmer can take the load from your feeding.

Ensure sufficient hiding places within your reefscape for the angels. Else they'll get very stressed and they'll stress your other fishes.

But then again they'll be reefers that are against putting in large angels in a 100 gal tank. So to each its own.:p

Good luck.

I am under the impression that MOST angels nip in the beginning, as they might have 'missed' something in the whole trading process. Later, the nipping might decrease because of frequent feedings.

But I am not one who would call ANY angel reefsafe. I have a regal angel for 3,5 years in my reef now, together with a pair of flames. I gave the regal a partner last October. The fish DO nip, in my case i can't keep clams anymore, nor fleshy LPS corals like Trachyphyllia. These are just 'food' for my two pigs! Three years ago, I could keep everything with this angel, now, the choice is somewhat limited.

Needless to say, I decided to keep the fish and decided to keep them with corals they don't eat: lots of sps, some LPS. But IMO it is not true that angels are reefsafe as long as you feed them enough. I have the feeling they will pick nomatter what.

Here's a pic of them

I have to agree Tanu. MOST are not safe, but safe to someone means only SPS or vice versa. My Joculator has no interest in any of my SPS, but occasionally will nip at my scoly. I have lots of clams and other LPS, but he has not shown any interest so far except for the scoly at the beginning. Probably has something to do w/ my frequent feeding schedule also.

Picture of my new brain along w/ clam and scoly that he used to nip on.

LobsterofJustice - nice little majestic angel you have there. Have you got him / her in a 75 or has it outgrown that tank?

He has grown since that pic, but he is still in the 75 (no plans to upgrade but we'll see how he progresses). I feed the tank at least twice a day via auto-feeder, usually 3-4 times.

juvi. imperator, juvi. personifier, and my favorite, Redsea regal.

the juvis are stiff fairly new to the tank so i'm just watching and praying.

Steve,
great looking emperor!
did you get it when it was a juvi?
what have you been feeding it.
