Single color, Single Species SPS tank from Beijing

Very nice. That's some impressive growth, what are you using to maintain Ca/Alk?

I am using a Grotech dosing pump with sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride to keep Ca/Alk at 450/13-15dKH.

Wow cool idea. Looks like a part of the ocean. In the top down looks like a green digi on the left?

Thank you, yes there is a green digi and a pink digi in the tank, it is little bit difficult to discern the species when these corals are small frag... :-)

If you scrape off those coraline. It will look more stunning. Like it so much.
The acrylic tank is too hard to clean for me, I will use glass in next tank... :-)

Beautiful tank, but I'm not sure if it's "natural" in terms of the lighting. None of my scuba dives was like that :)

Welles, quick question, been in Beijing a few times. Last time we drove for hours around from one end of the city to another to locate Saltwater LFS and we only saw some softie tank (Shanghai has a much better selection btw). Wife almost killed me...Where did you buy your corals/shop for stuff in Beijing?

Thanks
You could go to "ChaoYuan Flower Market", at the east of Beijing, there are some stores with SPS corals. Many SPS corals in Beijing is selling through online communities or discuss group, only few will be selling in stores :-)

I really like it Welles, looks great! any more pic's?

Is this your old tank re-done? what happened to your tank and amazing big acros?

Yes, it is re-done based on old tank, I have give some of acros to my friend and trying to build a single species SPS tank based on old corals in 2011, but it was sad that I got a chiller problem and it killed all the corals left in the tank(but all the fishs have survived), so I restart with montipora digitata after that.

Agreed. IMO, one of the reasons Amano-style tanks look so good is because they are spotless. Another is that the hardscape has been thoroughly thought out, and meticulously placed. I love Amano's tanks and the gorgeous Japanese-style planted tanks that his work has inspired. And, I like the concept you've come up with, pretty original. BUT... (again, IMO) for it to work the way (I think) you intended, it needs to be completely spotless, and the hardscape really meticulously considered.

This example (also monochromatic, but green) is not only spotless, but it has a very defined focal point - your eye 'knows' where to go when you begin to look at the composition, and the arrangement leads you through the very simple landscape-like scene. And although that scene is quite stark and severe, it's also calming and sublimely beautiful. When I look at your tank, I don't get the same effect - largely becasue I'm looking at all of the bits of coraline, and the pieces of stuff in the sand, and the many different fish species, each of which are different sizes and colors. Please, don't take offense to my critique - it is meant simply as that. It is a very nice, very natural looking reef scene.

The biggest reasons I got into corals, specifically SPS, was the amazing color combinations. Interesting concept, but not for me.
