Skimmer pump stopped working and I'm concerned the oxygen will drop

I'm looking for advice. This evening when I got home I noticed the pump on my reef octopus 5000 stopped working. So that really sucked but I'm concerned that the oxygen saturation levels will drop to low and kill my fish because I'm also running bio pellets and heard that this could be a problem. Of course I topped of my reactor last weekend too. Anywayi have power heads pointed up to the surface and am hoping this will be OK till I get my pump fixed. Just wondering what some of you with more experience think. My tank is a 300 with 50 sump. Approximately 23 fish. Thanks for you help

If your water is draining in your sump it'll oxygenate the water.

Role of skimmer as oxygenator is greatly exaggerated IME. As long as you have good in tank turnover, and drains to the sump, you're fine.

Thanks for the replies. Another question. Why do you think having a sump matters that much. Just because of the water tumble it creates. Last night I decided to reduce the bio pellets and took out over half. I have no idea why the pump stopped but I looked on line and other people have described the same prb I'm having. Wheel won't spin but if you point pump up the wheel falls back into place and will spin. It should be under warranty but I'll have to see what coralvue says. Paid a ton for it. Goes to my reef octopus 5000

Any water movement where the water gets to interact with the air is good for allowing CO@ out of the water and getting oxygen into the water. I seem to remember reading that just good water movement at the surface in the DT (i.e. waves or ripples on the surface) is just as much or more of an oxygenator as a good skimmer. And I agree with ca1or that skimmers ability to oxygenate the water is over rated.

It's not the sump per se, it's the ability to affect efficient surface skimming of the display. Just so happens that overflows/sump is the easiest way to do it. Then sump offers additional benefits like a place to keep equipment, grow chaeto, etc.
