You know I ran 2 reef devils on my 180 for probably 7 years, they worked great, no problems. I like my ASM but I feel the ETS was built better. I think the ASM is newer better tech, but the euroreef is built so much better. for a small tank I think you can get a small Euroreef for under $200 right? You copuld run 2 on a 180 and be fine I think they all skim well, but if you are going to have a skimmer around for a long time get a good one the first time I think.
Problems with the ASM:
cheap cell cast, not very clear or precisely shaped like the ER
the pieces lock together somewhat poorly and leak, sometimes just salt creep leak but still annoying
the skimmer cup cap leaks foam for me around the locking tab slots. the skimmate foam then runs back into the sump, not good.
the way the pumps fit into the skimmer body is weak, they just push in.
the riser output tube is noisy and splashes, I noticed the ER is all sealed up and has a gate valve for adj. and a trick angle cut output pipe for further adj.
They look similiar in a picture but put 2 side by side and you'll see all the reasons why ER costs more. Now on a big tank you could be talking $700 versus $2300 thats a lot. on a small tank maybe $100 diff. I think ER is worth it, I wish I had one.
