Skimz skimmer club

I don't think the Aux pump location would matter, if anything it sucks up some of the micros and after they go through my reactors and ATS the outlets are ran back through the filter socks.

I've calculated my sump turnover around 9.5-10x. In tank flow is 2-mp40's.

With all the pods running around I'd rather stay away from sponges around that area.

It just sucks that my old skimmer didn't do this with the same sump setup/turnover/layout. It did release some but not to this extent.

But I will try to slow the sump even more.

I used Red Slime remover to treat some cyano and it caused my Vertex Skimmer to go nuts. I had to do a 30% water change to calm it down. My skimmer also goes nuts when I used putty to attach frags or rocks.

My point is there could be a number of things in the water causing a skimmer to go nuts. And sometimes the only thing that fixes it is a water change.

I just joined the Vertex Skimmer club today with a SM162 that I will be using on a heavily stocked 75 gallon with 18 gallon sump. I'm also carbon dosing. It's replacing a Vertex Omega 150 skimmer.

It's not going nuts and it pulls crap no problem, it just won't contain the bubbles...at all.

New Skimz owner here. SM 161, here's the skimmate from 3days. I didn't feel the need for DC Pump with my system and AC version is only 13 w Italian made pump.

I had trouble finding any info on these skimmers but bought one anyway. VERY pleased thus far.

Just installed my skimz 143 to break it in before I put it on a smaller cube tank. Still trying to dial it in, I think I'm just impatient. It's been about 3 days and this is what it looks like

So far I feel like it's running good, like most of you guys I am hoping to get a lot more gunk. I will say this about the skimmer.. It is dead silent compared to my ro nwb150.

My sump depth is about 7.5", that my 161 sits in. I had to close the drain gate valve most of the way to get level decent height.

I then started with the airflow valve around the half way mark. I placed marks on the valve and skimmer with a label maker to help track amount of turns while adjusting. I'm keeping the majority of skim water right around the cups disconnect, the head rises about 1/2 way into the cup though. It takes a very small adjustment to move the level IME.

I'm making about 64oz of skim in 5-6 days, and it's really dark. It could be dryer but would need to keep that level even lower. that picture above shows the container that fills in less than a week. System is 160g total water.

Thanks... I'll try that.. I had mine going good for a couple days and then for some reason it just went to doing nothing and I've not been able to get it right again .... Just curious does water ever come up out of the slots at the cup connection?

Agreed,BRS is awesome and part of my decision to buy the skimz was the support if you need it.

Good luck hope you get it skimming like a champ. Mine continues to make a 64oz jug of scum every 5-6 days:thumbsup:

I was looking to set up a separate skimmate filling container coming from my Skimz 160 and I see you set this up. what size tubing was used? thanks!

Looking at skimz sm 201 to replace an old swc cone i have that broke. This sm 201 seems to be perfect at 360 bucks for my stocked 150. The footprint is also small n saves space. Is there a better skimmer in that price range with not a massive footprint?

Looking to purchase a skimmer for an upcoming build (200g-250g, heavy bioload, sps dominant). Skimz is one of the few brands I think I have it narrowed down to, but not sure of the model to go with. Kone, Oval, Leopard, Monster, or recirculating. Suggestions?

Being a completely new build, sump will also be a new build, and all equipment will be kept in garage, so space is not an issue.
