So I am going to be getting my first carpet anemone. What to do?

Beautiful gig, and great recovery!

that guy looks tons better! Has he stayed put? How big is he when open? I am looking into a carpet for my 250g setup.

Also anyone know with Gigs, since they prefer rock, as long as there foot is on a rock, will they stay on the bottom or want to make there way up the rock? I want my anem on the bottom of the tank in general.

Gig's are light hogs and will most likely make their way to the top, if they can.

After his initial week and I found his sweet spot. He has stayed put. I would say he is 15inches during the day when he is spread out. Its a amazing creature and adds so much to the tank. He never climbed up the wall I have that he could have done, but I have 250 watt halides 6 inches off the water with good reflectors and bulbs that are changed religiously

As to your question about gigs staying put on lower rocks. It really varies a lot if you have good lighting and major flow. They will climb up towards the light if you don't have enough light near the bottom of the tank with flow. I put two K-Nanos point directly at it about 8-10" away and he loves it tremendosly. I also have two k-3's and the return pump in the tank which is 37x turn over flow rate in my tank which is another reason I think it has been doing so well besides the normal good care I give him:spin1:

Thanks Elegance! I think I will end up getting another when I move up in tank size in the future hehe, im caught now!

between the gigs & haddoni's.....

gigs usually fold up a bit, & haddoni's lay flatter?
You have gig correct

It might be how they are located, but my Haddonis don't exactly lay flat.

Mine usually look something like this,

Nice clam, that thing is wild colored. Also yes I believe it depends on the flow as mine lays out more flat due to the way the flow is. It is a gig

Yes it is for sure a Gig. good thing is that he will prob. not eat all of your fish in the tank. The Haddoni will eat your fish, even clowns......

A few photos for almost 9 months that I have had it for now. Its been doing great and eats like a Pig. Also have a Mag nem addition since last March that has been doing well. I have a crappy point and shoot camera, but they came out alright I guess. Can't wait to say I have held one for a year in the next coming months! :spin1:

Absolutely beautiful nem.... I only wish that I had a lot more horizontal room to have them, but until that day comes, I have 2 BTAs.

Good luck, and please keep the pictures coming in time! This is a great thread.

Yes he is. I just can't seem to get a decent photo with him being near the top of the tank with my lights. I guess I will have to experiment with my camera. I'm starting to figure out settings, but I'm sure I still don't have them right at all lol. You are awesome at photos and I need those skills!

Alright, thought I would dig up this thread to show what the gig looked like in the beginning and how it looks now along with drastic changes to the rockwork in my tank due to me moving a couple of months ago. I also changed to LED's now instead of my halides that I was previously running. Its been a year and month and half or so now

It has responded very well to the LEDS. I would say also it has colored up even more since adding them in the tank. I would never think about going with halides again in the future as the benefits of the LEDS outweigh other types of lights by far

You could also just close the blinds :) Sorry, couldn't resist :)

The one you received sure doesn't look blue, it almost looks red/purple? In any case, congrats on the new carpet. Hope the transfer to your tank goes well. Look forward to more pics!

off topic but hey Greech, can you please remind me the name of that movie?, the one pictured in your Avatar.

thanks
