So it begins, part two (120G)

I wish I could say something, anything, was complete but I cannot. I did however make a bit of progress. Just to keep my thread alive here are some pics.

Plumbing for the 120 is pretty much done. Only dry fitted but still it fits!

I finally made some headway on the stand of the 30G. Not complete, as if you couldn't tell, but still moving along.

My goals for this week is to get the plumbing 100% completed on the 120 and to get the 30G stand framed up with the bottom shelf and paint. The woodworker will skin it with the same material that is found on the other stand.

This is my office showing the orientation of the two tanks. I will have plumbing ran along that corner because the 30G will be running into the sump under the 120.

Good deal.

Just thought you might want to talk to MattG he's got an oceanic 30 cube too.
I still want the oceanic 37 which unfortunately they don't make anymore. :(

I have and he has been great help on many things so far. He is probably tired of me bothering him by now.

One tank size that I think would be great is a 2'x2'x2' cube.

BTW, my cube is going to put his to shame! I challenge Matt to a duel of the cubes. :D ...wait a second. Maybe I better rethink that.

The "old" oceanic was around 24x18x16 I think. Basically a standard 37 with the height and width " flipped". We're thinking about building a custom nano with about the same dimensions.

Do I hear a challenge? You just wait until my new skimmer comes in!

Amy: this challenge sort of reminds me of when ol' Curtis drank too much wild turkey and challenged his DSB tank against any of the clubs bare bottoms.

That thread is one reason I was so opposed to closing this forum vs. migrating to the NKRA board.
A classic like that shouldn't be lost. :D

New skimmer? Details please

Deal, but you have to wait until I get my return pump, overflow, sandy bottom, Tunze 6025, and stand completed. :D

Amy i wanted to give a cone a try so an ATB multi. Keeping the H&S though since im very happy with it.

Mike: does this mean i get to hook up a 120ish gallon sump? Im not quite sure how the wife is going to take to an industrial trough in the living room. I'll give her your number :D

My sump is only 40G though. :)

BTW, did you catch 'Geo's signature?
Hobby Experience: Long enough that my wife has become completely numb to it

Wow those guys at glass-holes have quick delivery. Order was placed on Friday and arrived today, that was the free shipping. I will post some pics later this evening.

Overflow002.jpg

As it is all black it is difficult to photograph, but it has a box on the inside of the overflow with an open bottom. This is supposed to be a noise reduction feature.

I will soon be looking for a clean-up crew. If my parameters are all checking good, wait a week before introducing? What should I start out with. I'm afraid of getting too much at first and starving them. Should I just mix and match my own or get a prebuilt 'cleaner-pack'?

I'm open to any suggestions but I sort of like the blue leg hermits, emerald crabs, and a mix of snails.

Looks like a perfect fit!

Thanks, I chose my camera angle wisely! :) Naw, it did turn out pretty good. Not perfect but nothing ever is.

If anyone else tries this stuff, it does cut easy. I used a jigsaw with a medium toothed blade which can be used for laminate. It made a very slick cut.

Sounds like a nice mix especially since you like them. :D
Which snails are you thinking about? Also go easy on the emerald crabs they get pretty big eventually.
Where are you thinking about ordering from? Several of us have used reeftopia.com before.
I prefer to mix and match since the packs usually have a things I don't want or more of something than I need.

I actually pieced together a ReefTopia order before and was pleased with everything. Now, the 'small blue leg hermits' are closer to micro but I saw a warning about that before we ordered.

I heard you seldom have problems out the Emeralds unless they do not have enough food present. Is this in line with what you have seen/heard?

I would wait on your crew till after the nitrates nitrites and amonia come down from the first cycle. If you do order online and are interested I could use some crabs and snails maybe we could split an order or start a group one?
