so tell me what u think about my set-up for keepin sps

Um is it just me or is there no way to clean that felt bag it looks like you need a union or something there. One other thing i would move your asm(sedra) pump to the other side or the sump that way the return from the skimmer is farther away from the return(less chance for bubbles). i would also add a fludised filter Kent or the Two little fishies for the carbon and do away with the canister filter. It will save a bunch of space that your going to want in the long run. I also think you might have a noise issue with that pan world pump. first of all its plumbed ("wrong") which is going to give you plumbing vibration and then there is going to be actual pump noise, which may or may not get on your nerves. My avise is going to be to use some spa flex or even better some flex with hose barbs. you dont have do to it all with that just a few inches/feet comming into and out of the pump. Hope this helps

so it seems like the general consencus that the UV is to small

i hate when they mislead you because it says can handle up to 250 gallon tank with a flow rate of between 200-400gph

so im guna need like a 40W one or what?

so in order to make the pan world return pump have less vibration i need to take and have the first foot or so be out of the flex hosing and adapt it to the PVC after that? this will reduce vibration from it??

as for the filter sock i do have a union to put there i just havent put it in yet one thing i had forgotten at the time but i have it just need to add it now

so what is meant by the return pump blowing dirty water right past the skimmer?

is 1200gph to much for the sump return pump... i have a ball valve so i can throttle it down

my closed loop is totally seperate isnt fed from the overflow box....

i have 2-1" drain holes that T up and go to the seequence reeflo Dart then back up to the OM unit then to the tank so its a totally seperate thing from the overflow

yeah i had decided to go with the ASM instead of the ER cuz it saved me like $400 and people said the extra $400 wasnt really worth it but who knows its all prefernce i guess

i would love a deltec recir skimmer but in all reality im not guna shell out that kinda money for a skimmer

murphreef, your skimmer will do just fine. It would be nice to have a Deltec or a BK, but some of us need to drive Chevy's too!

Murph the only thing I saw wrong was that you needed braces under those return arms , they are just hanging on the Oceans Motions unit. Brace those arms with some blocks on the rim or something else, cause when those line get full they are going to sag and they might break the OM!!!

i think you'll be very happy with the panworld pump, i have one and absolutely love it! I dont find it noisy at all but i did put a 1 inch sheet of foam rubber beneath just to play it safe and reduce any possible vibrations.

Looks like you got what you need.....fill the sucker up. These things are like Hot Rods.....they are NEVER done. You will always want something newer, different, better.

Haha i love that comparison! and its SO true! awesome looking tank though :)

oh good suggestion about the bracing under the returns from the OM unit i never thought about them bending when they are full with water....

so u think some piece of wood cut to fit will prop them up and help them from puting stress on the OM unit due to weight?

thanks for the idea!

so someone can speak happily about the pan world.... :D

well im guna do the flex tubbing for the first foot on it and then put some foam under it and mount it just to be safe as well so i hope im as happy as u r when its up and runnin

drake that was a good comparison huh it made me laugh

just wondering if this is a better set up for the return pump so that way its not totally hard plummed some people voiced concern over the possible vibration caused by the pump especially if it were hard plummed so i added some 1" flex tubbing should this be a better set up

thanks!

i think i got the tank done ill be adding water this week for a practice run and hopefully get it up and running next weekend!

that set up is a lot better. You should fire it up and see if the noise bothers you at all. When i had myt ank in a garage it didnt bother me much but when i put my tank indoors with a iwaki/pan/genx type pump the noise from the brearing, fan bothered the heck out of me. I like sequence pumps, they are silent and move a lot of water at about the same wattage your looking at now. The only down side is the huge plumbing you must use.

yeah i should be able to get all the pumps going sometime this week i wanna test it with some fresh water in the tank first to make sure i got no leaks....

i hope it wont be too loud...

ive got the Dart on my CL i didnt get anotehr cuz i figured that would be overkill that the overflow box couldnt keep up with it... that plumming is very big off the dart lol 2" inlet and 1.5" outlet those elbows i got and that ball valves and unions sure were pricey on the 2" stuff

yeah i can tell that this set-up will alow for movement of the pump and for vibration to not affect the plumming and make any vibration noises

Now just wrap your clear tubing in electrical tape so that they don't start growing algae, especially if you have a lit refugium under your stand, and your done!

good idea i didnt even think of that cuz i do have an area in my sump where im guna keep LR rubble and some macro algae thats guna be lit by one of my retro PC kits i have left over from my PC days lol

ill deff wrap them up so they dont grow algae in them!

thanks!

so what is meant by the return pump blowing dirty water right past the skimmer?

What I mean is that those skimmers remove protiens better when there is more dwell time. With that return pump you have, the water will rush right pass the skimmer, and the skmmer wont be able to process the water that quickly.

Maybe you would be better off with a slower return pump, set your skimmer up to recirculate, and feed the skimmer directly from the overflow.

I bet that would work out better.

o ok gotcha ...

wow i thought it would be a good choice as far as a return pump would go on the flow rate...

ive been told i should even run more water throught the sump and get a bigger return pump but i thought that would be way overkill

is there a way to throttle down the return pump and maybe throttle down the overflow that way water will stay longer in the sump and that way the skimmer has more time to take out more of the dissolved proteins?

thanks

One way to throttle down the return pump is to bypass some of the water back to the sump. This way you don't restrict the flow of the pump. You can just Tee off of the return line with a valve, and plumb it back to the sump. By opening the valve, you don't send as much back to the tank, but divert it back thru the sump.

oh god idea ken i never thought of that... maybe i can T- it up somewhere if need be and do what u said.

do u think that the return pump is too much should i need to throttle it down by Ting it off?

Well, everyone has there opinion ;) The opinion that your pump is to big is based on that if the return pump is moving more water than your skimmer can process, you are returning un-filtered water back to your tank. Is that a bad thing? You tell me.

Personably, I shove in as much as the return can handle :D As long as it's quiet.

Paul, I'd pull up to your house in my truck and I could hear that pump screaming from the garage with my windows up and your garage door closed. I'm shocked the neighbors didn't complain:lol:
