So what is known about Chloroquine Phosphate? Facts & documentation only Please.

Exactly what are your creditinals?

Credentials?

Multiple undergraduate degrees, biology, math, physics. Graduate degree as well with two specialties: quantitative methods and strategy. College level instructor adjunct professor. Aquariums for slightly more than a half century. Salt water for 3 decades. About 3000+ dives, mostly in Southeast Asia. Professional level underwater photography (formerly, no longer)

And you say you can not do tank photography..
I think you can. Very impressive.

Important to me is whether CP affects nitrification.

Some say it does; some say it doesn't.

I think quite possibly it doesn't but when it kills off many lives and causes decay it is alleged to affect nitrification.

I know CP is degraded by UV; such is a big negative.

CP has its utility so I think I will try it.

Likely I will use either copper or diatom filtration together with UV for the first six weeks, then use CP and cut the UV for the latter six weeks.

I dosed in my 650 litre FOWLR DT, removed all snails, left hermits in. 5 Squareblock Anthias, 2 Lyretail Anthias and a Regal Angel.

I am at the moment 10 days into treating for velvet, i had lost one SB Anthia before I dosed, I lost the rest of my Squareblock Anthias when I initially dosed with CP, I don't know if this was from the disease or the cure. My male Lyretail was very ill before I treated but recovered after dosing then died 3 days later, my FM Lyretail and Regal Angel is fine showing no effect whatsoever. I lost my small bristle worms but a huge one is fine, lost a lot of brittle stars.

I had a GHA problem and all that died, (CP is an algaecide) this put a huge load on my nitrification bacteria and ammonia levels are at a warning level (badge)

Very impressive. I already knew what they were though. Just wanted to hear you list them. :-)

Someone that you could only hope to learn 10% of what knowledge he has on disease and treatments... What are yours? Looks like you just joined the forum and are trying to stir the pot, or be a troll

Not quite. Have better things to do. I asked for facts about CP, not an argument. This thread got off on the wrong foot for 1 reason. The Ca1ore guy made a provocative comment. I wanted to learn about CP, because I've heard the name a couple times, but didn't quite know what it was. Haven't know anybody who has treated with it. My apologies.

Sorry to hear. Great info though, thax for being honest and sharing. Please let us know how it continues to go if you would. Interested to hear the end result.

If it's killing GHA, it's some strong stuff.

Still amazed by your credentials. I knew you had a few degrees, the blog, and kept aquariums for over 25 years, but dang!

Didn't realize you were a college level professor, had two specialties, and 3,000+ dives in Asia.

Crazy! Just stunning though. You've been busy!

I have treated with it, search thread titles for my journey using chloroquine phosphate. You have to understand that a lot of people ask obvious questions to start a debate. Ca1ore was being funny and Steve Snorich has top notch knowledge and advise on proper treatments and diagnosis of fish disease (hence the several stickies) he advocates TTM and so do I when it's a single fish, when treating several I find that CP is easier for me to accomplish with a child and a 2nd shift job. It's all about what you choose to use. Each method works, TTM in 14 days and CP in 10 but most do 30 days

CP DOES NOT negatively impact nitrifying bacteria, it will kill any invert or bristle worm in rock you use to seed a QT. My QT is 250g so I had to use seeded rock and learn the hard way.

I think snorvich is already married though. ;)

Whoooooaaa. Exit only here. My girl is beautiful.

Nothing wrong with admiration.

So yeah, back to fish. While we're discussing treatment, my fish that had Brook are still alive. Been dosing F-MS every other day for a few days now (10 drops 5/G), and it appears that I've got control of it now. Fish are all eating and looking better. The white haze bumpy texture is fading away.

How do I completely kill it? How long do I need to dose this amount every other day, and should I do more concentrated dips or FW dips too?

Want to kill this stuff.

That is correct. And younger wives require care and compromise!

:hammer:

You aren't kidding. Mine is 34 and she is tough. She's beautiful so I let her wear the paints. She's great though. She let's me reef and doesn't freak out about money issues like most women do. We both have decent jobs with no kids. Life is good. The reef is priority. :-)

I'm just razzing ya. Nothing wrong with a little bromance. ;)

Post dip, are you putting the fish back into the same tank they came out of? If so, they will probably just keep getting reinfected. You have to either move them to a new/sterile QT every time (like doing TT), or treat the entire QT with formalin. Infected DT has to be left fallow for 6 weeks.
