Wanted to add to this thread; I have lyngbia and I've tried the antibiotics that I mentioned earlier in the thread. Tried it last week; regular dose of red slime remover (2 days treatment) had absolutely no effect on lyngbya.
Trying magnesium now; I'm on day 3. No observed effect yet.
make sure its tech-m
EDIT:
I had just posted 'no effect' but upon further inspection, it does appear moderately affected. 2-3 days from now we will see for sure
Congrats JG1; looks like you figured out how to cure lyngbya.
You might want to consider this, lyngbya likes low nutrient enviroments. I had a huge outbreak of lyngbya, battled it for a month, disconnected my biopellet rx and it disappeared completly within less than 2 weeks.
I disconnected my biopellets about 2 months ago. Since then I've increased water changes and decreased feeding. Then lyngbya showed up. Since then I've increased feeding, done the Magnesium thing, and dosed small amounts of potassium nitrate to bring nitrates to 0.2 mg/l
I'm visiting my mom about 2 hrs from where I live so I won't get to see the tank again until tomorrow afternoon.
Acropora1981: did you get rid of the lyngbya problem? If so was it Kent TechM or something else that solved the issue?
Thanks.
I observed some initial fluctuation in the lyngbya, but honestly, 3 weeks in or whatever, and I still have a good amount of lyngbya going despite popping up my mag to about 1800. So...yeah... for me, the Tech M thing is not really a good cure.
