Another idea, put styrofoam under the tank. Many people do this anyway to make up for irregularities in the top of the stand. However, I kind of doubt that vibration would be a problem, as long its not earthquake level.
ScubaOz (love that name): The stand is an oak Oceanic for a 120g RR. In my previous house, I built a sound studio and used this dense vinyl barrier made by Auralex between the sheetrock for sound insulation. It worked well but it was $$$ and they only sell it in large quantities. I like the idea of the garage floor mats cut to size - cheap and simple. The vibration cups are also a great idea but it sounds pricier and is probably overkill. Thanks for your professional advice. Much appreciated
MPH: I plan on placing a layer of foam between the tank and stand to even the load and prevent pressure spots. I'm sure this will help with the vibration as well. Thanks for your input too.
Auralex we use a lot in sound rooms, forget the checkbook and get a loan!!!!!!! I think the mats are the most cost effective way, probaly what I would do. Good Luck
Hey Everybody,
I'm just on the verge of completing my cycle in my 75g display tank. All I have in there right now is 139lbs of LR and 120lbs of LS. My parameters are Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0.3, and Nitrate 2.5. When would be a good time to turn on my UV Sterilizer?
I let the tank nitrite/nitrate levels get to near zero before kicking in the UV. Right now is your main concern is to promote bacteria growth not impede it.
Tanks to everybody else.
WaterKeeper is having more health related issues-his not his fish.
It has been over a week since I've been on-line and I haven't been able to follow up on your posts, The old WK is getting better and should be able to continue his old sarcastic ranting in the near future.
Hi Tom,
My rock has cycled nicely and I have plenty of coraline growing.Tank looks good and water parameters as well.I've added an algae clean up crew( varied types of hermit crabs and snails) about 2 weeks ago.Shortly after I introduced them,I realized(correct me if I am wrong)that my s.g. was low.It was between 1.021 and 1.022.So I slowly increased it over the next day and a half or so to 1.024.I have not adjusted the s.g. for several days now.
Over the last couple of days ,I've noticed a couple of dead crabs out of thier shells. Some still alive only to perish shortly after.
Is the change in s.g. too much for crabs or do crabs perish easily?
I know in one of your threads you have talked about water flow, but I can not seem to find it. Can you guide me in the right direction with water flow. I have 100 gallon or so tank with a 30 gallon sump. Getting ready to install MH and will be growing all kinds of corals in my reef tank that has been set up for a year now.
I remember you posting about having health problems, so here is the first of hopefully dozens of messages to say;-
"HAPPY NEW YEAR WaterKeeper", AND MAY 2005 BRING YOU ALL YOU DESIRE AND BETTER HEALTH, MIKE
Not only have I been hospitalized but snowbound for over 3 weeks. Sorry to be away so long but things are looking up and I should be back to my mean old self shortly.
