I switched to the MJ900 because of the slower flow. The slower flow resulted in a lower water level in the display area, giving me more room to play with my Vortech without overflowing the tank.

Forgot to add, once I removed the stock pump, I found a dial on it with a + and - sign. Haven't played with it, but perhaps i could have just adjusted it to a lower setting.

Inspect that + and - dial on your pump, I saw the same thing on the stock skimmer pump and its not an actual dial upon a closer look, not sure what it is..?

If it's like others, it's just a slide that closes down the intake screen a bit. I don't have mine to look at right now but the Eheim I put in my JBJ freshwater tank is like that.

That could very well be it, but I didn't see anything that moved at all...on the one I looked at.

I had my stock pump out the other day cleaning it and found the + - dial and it is a real pain to move it but mine did move and from Current it was set to the lowest setting. I moved it to the higest setting and notice a pressure increase and water was moving very quick through the back chambers. When I tried it adjust it down it took forever to get in back to the original setting.
Maybe others will have different luck with theres.

Yes that dial on the stock pump slows the flow down. I turned mine all the way down and it lowered my display water level by about 3/8" but how much it actually slows it down by I do not know?

I have the 4-unit and I like the all plastic housing as well as the more than sufficient cooling it provides. The only thing is that they're a bit loud (subjective opinion) running @ full bore - the only thing I wish was that they had some sort of fan speed control on them.

Thanks Mook,

I did notice the 2 fan model is 31cfm and the 4 is 38cfm? I may pick one up. I will have it on my controller so it will only come on during the warmer parts of the day(while I'm at work).

Look on eBay for the fans made by aquatek. They appear to be the same units asthe azoo fans for much better prices. The one I have works great. You can see it in the pic of my setup a page or so back.

opinions?
I use one and they work well, if you do not have the glass cover on. I just have it pointed straight across the tank, not angled down. It is controlled by my aqua controller and does not come on for very long most of the time. I only run mine at nine volts as they are noisy at 12 volts. I use a variable output power supply from radio shack. If need be I can easlily change it to 12 volts during the summer.

I just put an aqua c remora/ maxi jet 1200 , i dont know if anyone else here has used one of them before on this tank but it seems to be performing really good so far.

Is it a hang on tank skimmer? why did you replaced the stock one and does it work better than the stock one?

Yes it is a hang on back skimmer, i replaced the pump tube to a longer one and yes it is working great already, wet skimate for now but i can already see all the skim accumulating in the the neck of the cup. The stock skimmer was working good but its been acting up lately and well i figured it was time for a better skimmer.

I've got an aqua C on my tank as well - it's been working great for me. I've even installed a "mud flap" of sorts hanging from the output to beneath the surface of the water made of a 40 mil PVC sheet to eliminate all the noise generated from falling water.

my light reaches the back chambers so i decided to remove the filter floss and put some cheato back there. i also have ruble this should work out ok ... no?
