Slowly lower it into the water. Mine always has the same issues after the power is turned off. It takes a minute holding it at the right level.

I finally got the pump working. I had to take everything apart, plug in the pump and then it started spinning. My problem now is the cup fills up with water and foam after only 20-30 seconds of running. The cup then starts to overflow. I have adjusted the gate from open all the way to closed all the way and the cup still overflows. Any suggestions?

are you using the acrylic stand that comes with the sapphire skimmer to raise it to the proper height?

I am using that and I also adjusted the height and still getting way to many bubbles and foam. I really don't know what to do now, I have tried everything. :(

I would just take the collection cup off and let it run and overflow. That may just part of the break in. If it doesn't start running better then I would contact sapphire.

should I use chemi pure or chemipure elite on the second chamber? I already have carbon in there...

What media besides rock rubble are you guys using in the second chamnber?

Can anyone tell me how well the mp20 works with the Solana? I am a little afraid that the mp20 might be a bit over kill. I am in between the mp20 and mp10 but not exactly sure yet, any input would be much appreciated.

This is by far the BEST thing I have put in my tank. I placed mine on the back wall in the RETURN compartment. I have a 1 inch wave and the tank loves it. I use short pulse mode. Also, I made a "DRY" box for it. It has an open top and the pump slides right in. I used the stock skimmer since I replaced it with a Saphirre. I removed the 2 clear plexi sides from the skimmer leaving me with a piece of Black ABS plastic in the shape of a "U" with a hole at the bottom. Cut the sides down to fit the height for the return chamber. Use one of the pieces that have been cut and "Epoxy" it to cover the hole left by the orignal skimmer pump. Next cut the clear acrylic or get some new stuff from HomeDepot to make the sides of the box and seal it all up. I used epoxy for the whole process but I am sure silicone will work as well.

The last thing I did was cover the whole thing in "Plasti Dip" for extra protection.

The reason for all this.....

When and not "IF" you lose power or shut off the pumps the 3rd chamber will fill with water. This will KILL your $300 Vortech. With this box water will fill around the vortech keeping it DRY every time.

I cant post pics now and will in a few days when I am back at my tank but I hope you understand.

BUY One!!!!

I think your choices should be MP10 or MP40.
I bought the MP40, with the thought that one day I will upgrade to a bigger tank, over 100 gallons, and so the MP40 will help me out then. If you don't plan to ever upgrade, then the MP10 is the one you should look at buying, its smaller with similar power and flow to the MP20.

Did you consider buying one of these Dry Docks for the middle chamber that won't fill up with water when the pumps turn off?

Thats a pretty blanket statement about the MP20. Have you used the MP10?

I did see that and thats what gave me the idea. I wasn't sure how long it took to get one. However, it cost me $5 in materials.

Thanks for the link though.

So a $5 investment with the risk to KILL a $200-$450 Vortech...

Or spend the $32 on the inTank - Media Basket Dry Dock in the 2nd (center) chamber with little to no risk of ruining your VorTech...

Hummm...which one should I go with?
