Question, I have the 150 watt pendent with 14k bulb over my 34 solana, If i wanted to upgrade to 250 watt 20k, would i just change the ballast and bulb. Would the current 250 watt EB just plug right in or do i have to wire stuff up ?
One more, 20k is a good choice for LPS right ? I am not realy looking for crazy high par, i just want a nice crisp blue ( that makes all the colors pop, and the obvious..keep lps happy!

Without more information its hard to say for certain, but more than likely some wiring will be required. First is your pendent SE or HQI? If it is HQI the bulb is not the same size so you will also need a larger bulb holder. If you are just keeping lps in a solana I would not upgrade to a 250w unless you raise the light way up there you are more than likely going to bleach all your coral as sps tend to me considered "moderate" regarding lighting demands.

The 250watt bulb is longer/larger and would need a different socket. If your pendent is the "Ball" I don't think that the 250 would fit. Someone else here asked the same ??? about fitting one in the ball, I'd PM them to see if they somehow got it to fit.

Well summer just started, my tank temp elevated to 83 this morning so I decided to finally get rid of the glass top, surprisingly it dropped the temperature to 81 in a couple of hours..

Now I got to find a way to keep the turbos inside the solana...

Just wanted to share my tank.

It looks like you have 3 small tangs in there, is that right? OR am I just seeing two weird things that look like that?
Love the corals...what kind of light is that you are using?

Also Penguintheory, since you are putting your photos up on Photobucket, you don't have to use the IMG button here, the code you copy from Photobucket already has it, so you are getting double IMG tags in your post.

Its one hippo tang and two yellow tail damsels...

Ahh ok, it looked like they were a bit too small for hippos, and was hoping they were something else too.

yes they are damsels I got them a while ago because my daughter wanted dory but even though she is only four she could tell that they were not dory. If I can ever catch them they will be removed.

Light is a 24" Ebay fixture that I replaced the bulb with a Phoenix 14K and a Ice Cap 250 ballast and now it works like a charm. I also have 3/4" square tubing welded to make an L then I just atached it to the back of the stand so that when I need to put my hands in the tank it will pivot side to side to open up more room.

Im gonna set up my Tunze osmolator today on my solana, on which compartment should I set the sensors?

What height should I try to keep my water to help it work best with the stock skimmer?

THX guys

I would imagine you would remove the two stock ATO bottles in the 3rd chamber and put your Tunze stuff in there...thats what others have done, only makes sense...?

Thanks guys i think i'll stick with the 150 watt for now, besides. my acans are happy ...And i dont have the money for the upgrade at this time, Just doing some research..

Glad to be a new member, but my exuberence has been tempered with a bit of dissapointment.

How common are glass chips on the solana's? I just unpacked mine and it is fine expect for one of the front bottom corners. The very tip of the corner has been chipped off, leaving a slightly irregular and sharpish surface.

I admit it is minor, but it does perturb me. I wish it was in the back, but at least its not on the top.

The light should be here in a few days, then Ill see how much more visible it becomes once a halide is lighting up the glass.

Am I alone? Would you ask your lfs to order another?

For sure ask for a new one, thats a saftey hazard.
Go back to where you bought it or write/email Current-USA and voice your concern over the chipped glass and its safety and would like a new tank.

ol1, keep in mind that the fine film that builds up on the glass is a breeding ground for pods. most like to keep at least one panel of glass for this reason.

Has anyone had any issues with the Pendant that comes with the Solana? From what I read in the past, most everyone replaced the bulbs with Phoenix 14K right off the bat. I have been running the brand-less bulbs that come with this unit and lost two in the course of six weeks. Has anyone else seen anything like this? My hopes is that my problem is just cheep bulbs and not a system problem. Any info would help thanks!
