If you want more than 2.5 gallons, you should consider the cheap 5.5 gallon critter tanks like this guy uses...

I'm following his footsteps, you don't have to refill as often.

He has acrylic lids for them...

One is ATO (left) one is 2 part dosing (right)

If anyone is interested you can find a coupon online $5 off $25 or more at Petco good until 03/15. The 5.5 gallon tanks are $14.99 each so you end up getting them for $25+ tax. I picked mine up tonight!

Forgot about posting some shots, here's a couple quick ones from this evening.

That looks great!I'm going to have to get a moonlight now!

Kevin,
would you mind inform me,from where you got the moonlight fixture?Looks perfect for the Solana
thanks

That ATO looks nice but a few quick questions is the blue tube where your water is pumped in from? And is it sitting water level our really close to it? If both of these answers are yes, there might be a possibility of you creating a back siphon with that hose! Maybe I'm wrong and you've already planned ahead for that...

But in other news your DIYs look great!!! And I am 100% debt free as of today...

Yes, the blue line is going through the bracket to feed water to the tank. There is about 1-2" between the top of the line and the water level in that compartment. Good point though and I may move it up another few inches just to be safe.

The other thing I've heard people doing is poking a hole in there ATO line to prevent a siphon from forming. Just be aware that some water may squirt out of the hole so place it accordingly.

This may have already been brought up in the thread but I didn't read all the way through. Has anyone tried putting the hydor deflector on the return hole so they don't have to have those big twin flow things coming out of the back wall? I'm going for the clean look "bonsai type" reef and my rocks don't cover them up. I think that would be a good alternative while adding a little movement to the flow.

I just took my twin flows off, and figure the VorTech MP40w will create enough movement in there for me. I think the Hydor Deflectors are a good idea, just never seen one in the Solana.
If you get one, and install it let us know here, I'd be interested in seeing it and knowing how well it works, and would consider purchasing it.

I've never had a Hydor that worked for longer than a week. Good thought but I wish another manufacturer made something similar but more dependable.

I have one sitting right here to :)

Has anyone ever explored any sort of creative solution to incorporating moonlights into the disco ball? I was thinking something along the lines of a donut shaped circuit board with a couple of LEDs to fit inside the housing with wires routed up through the top of the ball and through/along the support pole. My main concern would be the material's tolerance to the heat from the halide.

These have been running for over a year. A friend of mine is an electro-nerd and ran them for me. He used one of these http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+12760&pcatid=12760
Un-soldered the leds from the circuit board and ran wires to link them up. Sorry, I dont have pictures of the process
