Some New Tank Photos

Beautiful SPS display, nice to see you're not treating your reef like a chemistry set to play with and taking the simple approach. I like to see beautiful reef displays rather than beautiful sumps packed with wiz bang equipment, well done.

I agree biggles. Simple is better. Especially when you have to go away on vacation and someone else needs to take care of the tank.

I want to share my new acqusition - acropora clathrata from the Diver's Den.

PS, do you happen to have the ORIGINAL DD pic? I just want to see how they advertised on their site? Usually corals look a lot less nice, but you have hit the jackpot with this one. :D

Wow, I am pleasantly surprised, the DD photo looks VERY close; allowing for white balance issues, file compression types, monitor/camera settings etc etc.

You've got an awesome coral. Take good care of it. Would love to see what it looks like in 3-6 months time.

Oh and those new shots look awesome. Keep the photos coming

That DD coral is so nice, its crazy...
Stop it, stop it!!!
Those shots are making me so jealous!!
Post some more!

I just noticed on the previous page your discussion about the difference between led light source and t5 or mh and I'm not sure I understand what you mean or maybe I don't really agree with it..
Maybe when t5 are concerned since they produce light along the entire length of the bulb thus spreading out the light source more than a point source like a mh or led, but I wouldn't see any difference between an led strip that is as long as a t5 bulb or even a light like a Radion pro or a Mitras which has multiple light sources (granted, in a smaller area than a strip light) but light still bounces around a tank and reflects in all sorts of angles doesn't it?
I know that the strongest light is coming from a direct line from the source.. This is the case for mh or led, why would there be a reduction of light deeper in the coral from an led than from a mh?
I don't really understand, I guess..

Matt, I'm not an expert in light theory in an aquarium setting but based on what I see in other users tanks, I notice that:

1) Viewing my tank directly perpendicular to the front pane, I notice that the sides of my corals are dominated by shadows.

2) Looking at other pristine tanks that use T5 or MH from the same angle, the shadows are no where near as pronounced as in my tank.

Maybe LEDs cause the corals to grow in a different pattern/structure than T5/MH that causes this shadow "look." Or maybe I'm being crazy :spin1:

Wow..........nice score........it would be nice to see an updated shot of that piece

Wanted to see the same thing, hence why I came back to this thread. But it looks like the OP has sold everything...

Maybe we are in luck and he took photos? Tactics, please post up an updated shot if you have one. Thanks.

Hi all. Thanks for the interest in my tank but as ssdawood pointed out, I sold the tank. We recently purchased a house and I didn't want to go through the hassle of a livestock transfer. Will get back in the hobby once things settle down some.

As to the piece from DD (clathrata), it never stabilized and STN'ed. I gave some remaining chunks to Greenwich Aquaria but never followed up with them. Since, I've seen a clathrata come up again on the DD so keep your eyes peeled if you're trying to get this piece.
