i have no build thread...i found out about reefcentral after my endeavor began. i guess i could start a tank thread (possibly post in the nano section?)

another question for you i asked grim but havnt gotten a response yet. which do you think would provide more benefit for the sps in the tank, lowering the light fixtures or removing the splash guards?

heres a pic from about a month ago

sunnyx, do you have a procedure for quarantine of sps to guard against AEFW, red bugs ect? do you just dip and put the corals in the tank or do you actually quarantine all corals using a tank ect? can you give us a run down on what you do? thanks

You have Xbox Live??? Whats you gamer tag?

P.S. your tank looks amazing, like always!

Thanks!

While removing the splash guard may initially increase the amount of light going into the tank, it is not a long term option. Eventually the bulbs and reflectors would become coated in salt, reducing output. So, I would simply move the unit closer to the water. Are you currently running any carbon? You would be amazed how much more light enters a system once carbon is run.

Hello,

Well for starters I only get my SPS from a couple friends who I know are "clean". When I do get new corals I dip them in TMPCC for 15 min followed by a dip in Interceptor for about an hour. This has worked for me.

Hey sunny,
I started the vodka/mb7 system about the time you started this thread and 3 or 4 months into it I kinda gave up. Recently I started back up and im about done with the initial mb7 build up and this time I am seeing awesome results and I havent even started the vodka yet. I really havent changed anything this time around. I have the blackest skimate ever. Any idea on what could have changed this time around? Maybe out dated product? I dont know but hopefully it goes better this time around. Anyways your last pics looked amazing and I cant wait for new ones. Like Leonardo said knock it off with the Xbox and get to it.

MB7 question. Bottle reads daily dosing or once a week. Have you tried both ways? Or possibly making your own dosing schedule like twice a week. Turning off skimmer 4 hours a day is not possible with my schedule.
Thanks

Call of Duty (COD) best game out there, even though I still average 10-15 kills and 10-15 deaths per match

yeah man i run carbon in the return chamber of my hob skimmer. and when people come by and see my tank they are like damn your water is clear! i cant place the lights right on the tank because of the pvc piping on the skimmer though, so i guess ill just have to do weekly wipedowns. i plan on getting an MP10 in the next month or so. i already am running three pumps which put me at a little over 50x turnover per hour. would you recommend taking one of the pumps out or just cruising with all four? are my lps gonna hate life or will they be fine with a lil serious flow? also planning on an ATI fixture. do you think the difference in the powermodule and the budget one is worth the $$$ and should i do a 4 or 6 bulb?

thanks sonny! ***pics please :) :0 ;)

I've started dosing lugols the last couple days and have had a noticable cyno outbreak. I was dosing one drop a day and am going to drop back to one drop every 3 days to see if it helps. If I've read correctly starting MB7 should help with this? On the plus side I saw an immediate improvement with my mushrooms opening more fully. I had suspected an iodine depleation was causing this. It looks like that was the case.

GrabtheReef: I can comment on your light question. I have had both the Sunpower(6x24") and have now the Powermodule(10x54W). The Powermodule is defintely built MUCH better(made out of a much stronger metal, has smoothed edges, rather than riveted on the outside, and has more cooling(which is supposed to run the bulbs brighter/longer) but obviously more expensive. Depending on how tight your budget is should make your decision; they will both put out a lot of light, one is just a little nicer looking/better made.

In fact, I'm having a sudden coral decoloration (Monti, Pinaple) and less expansion (euphelias, mushs) since two months. I think it is the MH bulb change (in January) that did it but reading your discussion on cooling fan, I was questionning this avenue too.
I'm running on 14K 150w Coralife, which I'm still not sure. I was prefering my previous Giesemann which was no longer available where I ordred the bulb. I run also on the same fixture two PC 65w Coralife actinic. Would you suggest to put another type for these MH bulb and PC(using the same fixture)?
Tx!

Are the bulbs your are using single or double ended?

Is this a fixture or a retrofit kit?

What are the dimensions of the tank?

What are the parameters of the system? Temp, CA, ALK, PH, PO4, etc..

Im just trying to figure out some solutions but I need a little more info. A picture would also help. :reading:

Hi Sunny,
Thanks offering to check. Some precisions:
- Parameters: Temp:79, CA:400, ALK: 5meg/l, Ph:8-8,1, PO4:<0,05mg/l, SG:1,026, NA: 5-10. Every param stable in time.
- Tank: 36X12X18, 33g
- Lighting: Coralife fixture, this one
- Bulb: 150W 14K double ended Coralife, replaced two months ago(had 12k Giesemenn before). This is when I got the coral reaction but when it is also when the fan became unaligned too (which I realigned 3 weeks ago).
- Also 2x65w PC actinic 420nm and no change to water flow with koralia 2 (600gph) and aquaclear 50 (270gph).
- Seeing reaction I decreased MH time from 8h/day to 2,3,4..to now 7h/day. Trying to reacclimate but I suspect it will take time.
- Feeding very sparse with 2 fishs(osclaris+6 lines wrasse) every other day.

Some pics:
Never seen my pinnaple fading white like this in 6 years. Monti was bright green for the 3 months before bulb change and was fast growing. Now he is brown and slowed much its growth.

Euphelia much less expanded than usual since same time.

BTW I'm working on a Miracle tank 36X20X20 project with 33g sump(+refugium ATS) that may help on NA. Maybe replaceing one of those 2 actinic may add a new spectrum opportunity. I'm thinking on returning with Giesemenn too.
So, do you see this as a new bulb reaction, bad cooling from the fan, etc ?
Thanks for your comments.
