Do you find your vortech noisy when it spools up on reef crest mode? had mine 3 weeks and the motor just sounds loud to me. It not a vibration but the RPM's of the motor. Are you getting a second MP40?

cheers

Hello,

For the first month or so the Vortech had a noticeable sound but now it is quiet. Yes, I do plan on getting one more Vortech, likely sometime this summer.

Give you pump a little time and maybe try readjusting the pump with the outer magnet. Small movements clockwise or counter clockwise make a big difference with the Vortech.

Hello and thank you :D

I would NOT use the bulb combo you have listed as it will look pink and bland. I would go with a combo of 2x Aquablue Special and 2x Blue+, as this would hit on all spectrum's and will be more pleasing to the eye.

Based on your dimensions 4-5 bulbs would be good for maintaining SPS and other corals.

Do you plan on retrofitting the T5's of purchasing a fixture?
Hello and thank you Sunny for the reply! :D

For the bulb combo, I will look into your suggestion. Plus, my fixture happens to come with 1 ATI Blue+ and 1 Giesemann *something* too! haha (:

Anyway, what do you mean by retrofitting the T5's of purchasing a fixture? Basically I'm getting something off the shelves, in fact off some other reefer's shelf for say USD 48.2? with the above bulbs as mentioned :D what's great besides that is that each tube has its own reflector too. So I do not really need to go about doing some DIY for the tubes itself :)

Anyway, I hope I have answered your questions and happy reefing Sunny! Keep this stunning thread and tank going! :D

Woohoo~

Great post Austin! When you gonna swing near my part of town?

Johnathan, I hope what Austin posted answers your question. If you have any other question please feel free to ask them.

I actually just came back from my LFS a little bit ago. I had to get some more MB7 as the I am curing some old LR.

Thanks Sunny... I certainly will and no better time than the present  In a brand new system, how long would you wait before dosing a carbon source. I'm assuming it would be beneficial to start with bacteria right from the start.

I would dose heavy on the bacteria for the first month and then slowly bring it down to a normal dosing level. Once all of your parameters are in check I would start up vodka, say 3-4 months from start up. I have never dosed vodka in a new system and am afraid that the system would be "too clean" and cause issues to develop. Perhaps someone with experience with vodka and new setups can chime in.

What brand is the fixture you are purchasing? I ask this because the reflectors and cooling of a fixture make a huge impact on T5 output and longevity.

Thanks Sunny, I will certainly follow your suggestion. I was speaking with someone yesterday in terms of Bacteria and they mentioned about being careful not to overpopulate the tank with bacteria, which can eventually cause oxygen depletion in the water..(I have no way of qualifying this, but the conversation warranted me to ask someone else about it). If this is the case than, I certainly understand the need for a good skimmer (Currently a Deltec 851) using this method in order to help oxygenate the water along with any other device that agitates the suface of the water. Do you monitor the oxygen in your tank or do you just watch the condition of the tank and the inhabitants for visible signs?

talk about vodka dosing

talk about vodka dosing

hell SunnyX,
regards to vodka dosing, I have a friend who's currently on a daily regime of 6ml dosage per day. Somehow there's no cyano bloom or an intense explosion of algae, is that possible?

He is currently running a Reef Octopus DNW200 with 4 tubes 39W HO T5s retrofit.

LMK what you think.

Happy Reefing! :D

Hi Sonny, I was wondering if you turn your skimmer off for the recommended 4 hrs when you dose MB7. TIA

I have a t5 4-bulb tek retro & am thinking of 3 blue+ & 1 aquablue, what do you think? Can you recommend a good combo 4 my mixed reef w/ sps on top.

Hi SunnyX,

I Have a 45G nano, SPS only. Today I have 250W Giesemann 14.5K HQI and 4 x T5 actinic

I was thinking in change for only T5 setup

I saw your setup, and you are not using actinic

The ATI Blue+ is almost the same as actinic ?

I can add here 8 x T5, any sugestion in my T5 setup ?

Best Regards

Yes, the Blue+ looks like an actinic but is much brighter and bluer.

For your setup I would go with a 4-6 bulb T5 setup. 4 Blue+ and 2 Aquablue Special would look great. Or, you could go with 2 Blue+ and 2 Aquable Special.

Both options will give you great coloration and growth provided you have good reflectors and cooling.

thats similar size to my tank, and I do about 3.2 ml daily. I know some people who run that much without any issues though.

I do not monitor the Oxygen in my system nor see the need to. I have overdosed bacteria many times with no ill effects. With a skimmer that large I wouldn't worry about oxygen deprivation.

For signs of O2 depletion look to your fish. If the O2 is running low the fish will hover near the sand bed rapidly breathing. Keep an aquarium air pump with tubing handy if you are worried about dosing of bacteria.

Hi Sonny, I was wondering if you turn your skimmer off for the recommended 4 hrs when you dose MB7. TIA

Nope, skimmer stays on. I read somewhere that Brightwell was going to revise the label erasing that recommendation.

The only time I turn my skimmer off is when I am dosing AA or Reef Nutrition Rotifers.

Hello,

The combo you listed will give your corals a great "POP" but may be too blue for your liking.

I would go with:

FRONT
Ati Blue+
Ati Aquablue Special
Ati Blue+
Ati Aquablue Special

This would give you great coloration and growth. To my eyes, it is the perfect color combo.

I just found it Sunny. My tank is a 120(48x24x24) could you tell me what you would start the dosing at.?

Hello,

Are you going to be using MB7 along with vodka?

Concerning the MB7 it would depend on your system. If you tank is clean the 4 drops a day will be fine. If your system needs some help 8-10 drops a day should do the trick.

Yes, still learning about the vodka? Do you have a link with more info on the vodka? Want to make sure I completely understand it.
