Picked up a nice zoo yesterday. I don't know what it is yet, maybe blue/purple hornet??

I just got back into zoo's so I will leave the ID to you experts:

They look like this

FiSHy sAy HeY, that's not a true live sand bed. That just has "beneficial bacteria" (so they say) living in it, no worms or pods.

Your tank is so incredible, so clean and so much open space for the coral to grow out. Ive been following your thread, and used it to influence my aquascape as well as using T5's, just wanted to thank you for giving me the inspiration. :)

Sonny,

Is there a benefit of using Microbacter7 over Prodibio Biodigest?

I have been researching bactieria driven systems....If I decide to do it, I am either going to use your method, or VSV (Vodka, Sugar, Vinegar) & Biodigest.

What do you think about the VSV/Biodigest method?

I will also use Reefbooster.

At what point would you start Reefbooster?

Hello,

I have used Prodibio biodigest in the past and see no difference between it and MB7. The reason I chose MB7 was because I can dose it daily as opposed to weekly like Prodibio.

I looked into the VSV method before getting into vodka and decided to stick to the simplest method. VSV can spoil and lose its potency over time so I did not want to always worry about my batches. Plus, it has been suggested that the addition of sugar can drive up the growth of dinoflagellates.

I would seed the tank for 1-2 weeks with bacteria prior to starting up vodka dosing. wait an additional 2 weeks before starting up Reefbooster.

Sonny, do you have any live rock in your sump? Im thinking of adding live rock to my sump since I do not run a filter sock. What do you think?

Thanks for the reply, Sunny!

How should I feed my tank during the bacteria/vodka start up?

I currently feed Cyclopeeze, PE Misis, & Nori. I usually feed once a day (a small amount of 2 of them). I also feed Reef Chili occasionally.

Shoudl I change what I feed my fish after I start the bacteria/vodka?

Also, one thing I just though about...I installed a plenum (with the advise of my LFS) when I originally set my tank up. I about about 2" of sand on top of it. Will this cause any problems with the bacteria/carbon dosing?

Thanks again!

Great thread Sonny. It took about an hour and a half to get through it all! : )

Quick question that has not been asked. Do you dose vodka and MB7 directly into the tank or do you throw it in your sump?

Thanks,

Craig

Currently I have no live rock in the sump but I may place some into my frag tang. If you decide to place some live rock into your sump be sure to provide enough flow so that detritus does not have a chance to settle.

I would keep feeding the way you currently have it. Concerning the phelum , how long has it been setup?

Thanks for stopping by. :D

I dose vodka into the sump and bacteria directly in the display tank.

Hey Sunny, I have to say this is a very informative thread you have going... As I get ready for the arrival of my new tank (This Saturday!!!!) I have been pondering the idea of carbon dosing.. In reading a few posts back, you were talking about the mixture losing its potency... Would using a doser be a crap shoot here or would I be able to get away with it?

Its been up and running for exactly a year.

Sunny, I have a TX5 on the way. I need to order new bulbs for it and would like to get a similar mix as you have. I like ATI bulbs, but it sounds like the AquaScience bulbs are better. Could you recommend a 5 bulb mix?

Congrats on the new tank!

I don't recall exactly what I had posted previous but I believe I was referring to the bacteria losing its potency and possibly becoming contaminated. You could use a dosser to dose the vodka and bacteria in but I am not sure if it can dose such a tiny amount.

If you could direct me to the post I made I would love to help give you a clear answer.
