Sonny, is the TX5 Aquactinics 5 bulb fixture any good? I was thinking of using one of these for my 36x24x18 tank. Do you think a Tek5 36 inch 6 bulb would be better? Let me know your opinion. Thanks!

The Tek's really should be taken off the market. They lack active cooling and no splash guard which reduce output and degrade the bulbs much faster.

The TX5 is a great fixture but you may need 6 bulbs depending on where you place your corals.

If you can swing it, for an extra $200 you can get an ATI 6 bulb fixture which will more than meet your needs.

But between the TEK and TX5, The TX5 would be my choice for the reasons listed above.

Well, I have some really good connections here with the LFS's so I got it for only $20. (30+ polyps) ;)

Wow really? .60 cents per polyps? That's a deal man.

Well, today I will be trading in a couple Tunze Nano's and some cash for relativity new Vortech Mp20. :D

I will now have two Vortechs, one MP40W and the new MP20. The MP20 should be a great fit as it is upgradeable when I decide to get a large tank. My current MP40W is set at 65% power in Reefcrest so the MP20 should be sufficient.

What would the dimensions be of your next tank?

Next tank will be 72Lx36Wx20H Rimless, 4-side viewable Walk around tank with a short stand(36" or less) for easy top down viewing. I currently have no problems looking top down on my tank, but then again I am 6'4. ;)

I don't know what direction the next tank will take, but it will be something new and innovative. But, that is still at least a year or so away.....

I'm getting ready to purchase a Vortech for my rimless and I'm curious of your opinion on the MP20 vs. MP40. I'd like to stick to just one of them since it's going to be a LPS tank only with Acans and Favia's. My tank dimensions are 42x30x20. What would you pick for a model of pump? One person says a 20 and another says a 40 ... so I don't know what to pick!

I heard Tek Lights are improving there fixture they had plans of putting some fans and moon light
they are trying to have them for MACNA show

Also they already have splash shield they just sell it seprately

Do you get microbubbles in the DT from the sump/skimmer?

Sonny, since your skimmer is oversized for your tank do you experience any problems with it not being able to produce a foam neck or not being able to produce skimmate? Is it consistent in the amount of skimmate it removes? The reason I ask is because the bacteria your dosing is already responsible for cleaning your tank and you mentioned you feed your fish only every other day. Thanks

I see. Where will the return goes? Under? Like close loop?

The return would come from under the tank out of the overflow box. I would build rock and coral around the overflow box in order to hide it make it appear as a natural outcropping.

I am currently looking at some of those magnetic ceramic reef ledges in order to hide my current overflow box.
