JBanks, Poseidon: Isn't it great being tall! :D

eggiel: You are correct, TEK should be displaying a new model soon with the added features you listed. If you can wait for it may be good, if not ATI and Aquactinic are good choices.

achillesheel: Thanks for posting my bulb config! :D

I'm getting ready to purchase a Vortech for my rimless and I'm curious of your opinion on the MP20 vs. MP40. I'd like to stick to just one of them since it's going to be a LPS tank only with Acans and Favia's. My tank dimensions are 42x30x20. What would you pick for a model of pump? One person says a 20 and another says a 40 ... so I don't know what to pick!

If you are not worried about the extra cost I would go with the MP40W. Worst case scenario with LPS would be simply dialing down the power of the MP40W.

Do you get microbubbles in the DT from the sump/skimmer?

Although I have moved somethings around in the sump I still get no micro-bubbles. The Eheim return pump does a great job. I am very happy that I do not have to deal with filter socks and will be using Eheim return pumps for all future setups.

Sonny, since your skimmer is oversized for your tank do you experience any problems with it not being able to produce a foam neck or not being able to produce skimmate? Is it consistent in the amount of skimmate it removes? The reason I ask is because the bacteria your dosing is already responsible for cleaning your tank and you mentioned you feed your fish only every other day. Thanks

Even though my tank is super clean I still get a full container of dark skimmate every 5 days. I know that when I began dosing Bacteria and vodka my skimmer output increased, yet I don't know where all the waste is coming from. I feed very lightly and have no algae, so the appearance of all this dark skimmate is quite a mystery.

swhaley40, Denadai, JCR's Reef: Thanks for the support and feedback! :D

So, I installed the Vortech MP20 yesterday and really like it. The tank looks much cleaner and organized now that the Tunze's and their cords are out of the tank.

I have the MP40W on the left side at 75% in Reefcrest Mode, the Mp20 is on the right side at 100% in Lagoon mode. I now have water spilling over the back side so I will have to reconfigure the pumps when I get home.

Looking good Sonny! Not to step on toes but does this look a little more true to reality? All I did was remove the blues. I'm interested to see your response having never seen your tank in person, all I could go on was sand color.

Thanks, I'll stick with ordering the MP40W then!

The pic you edited looks much too yellow/green.I played around a bit with Lightroom with the white balance dropper and this is most true to life:

Looks alot better I think . ;)

When viewing the tank in person the light is a crisp blue/white with no yellow.

I agree too much yellow/green. I like yours much better. Again, beautiful tank!

Thanks!

I should have taken the time and edited the pictures properly. The pics look much better now. The blue was washing everything out.

Thanks again for point that out.

What really messes with the white balance dropper sometimes as well is the that the sand is a mixture of white, light brown, and pink sand. The sand in person is an off-white, not really a true white.

been checking out your thread for a while now. Another great tank!!

How's the evaporation in your tank given you're running T5's? I've seen some wonderful rimless tanks that use MH, but I'm a little hesitant about all of the evaporation and subsequent increased humidity with the MH. I'm assuming with T5's, it's minimal, if any at all. What about salt creep?

Keep up the good work. rimless and t5 = amazing tank!

Oh, one more thing: I must have missed it earlier on your thread. Where did your yellow tang go? Sorry if you posted it earlier!

Hi Sonny, just got done reading the 65 pages of this thread. AWESOME TANK!!! (Let me pick up my jaw off of the ground and wipe my drool b4 I continue. lol) I want to get rid of my DSB in my fuge and start dosing vodka/MB7. Your tank is inspirational. What steps do I need to not shock my system. System is 2 yrs old.

Do I dose MB7 for two weeks, then follow the vodka regimen, then remove the DSB and phosphate reactor? Or do I remove the DSB and GFO first? Sorry for the long post. Thanks.

I really have no issues with evaporation. My prior tank had lots of evaporation but this tank really doesn't lose much water. I no longer have to use fans to cool off the tank so that is the biggest factor.

The yellow tangs are still in the tank. My fish are very friendly so I have to scare them in order to get a good shot. If they see me they get all bunched up and ruin photos.

Ever pet a tang? I can. ;)

Wow, you don't need to run a cooling fan, that is awesome man. What I hate most about my tank is evaporation. I don't have those special machine where I can add an ATO. You are lucky that there aren't any heat issue.

nice site, but where is your tank info?

It was just a link to my photo gallery. On my site go to the Rimless Reef section for info.
