Come Tuesday it'll be the second week for me dosing MB7 to the tank. As of now, I want to say it did nothing to rid the GHA in my tank. Is it not going to do anything until the vodka is dosed?

Give it time and let it seed your tank. You should start to see a difference once the vodka dosing begins. Some people see a difference within days of dosing vodka, others dont see it kick in until a 28+ days out.

Have patience :p , it may not seem like its doing much but soon enough it will begin to work its magic with the vodka. ;)

I’m not trying to speak for Sunny, well I guess through the quotes I am. I’m just trying to fill in while I am bored at work.

I did stay at a Holiday Inn a couple of years ago.

  Yeah, what he said!

reefer334, feel free to post whatever you would like here. :D

I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere in your thread Sunny, but what brand of salt are you using right now and how often are you doing water changes?

Hello and thank you. :D

I do the following:

-30gl(18%) water changes once a month.
-I have been using Reef Crystals form many years now with great results.

I used to do small water changes weekly but my system is clean to a point that the less water changes I do the better. The only reason I do water changes now is to replenish any lost elements and minerals.

The bacteria and carbon source(VODKA, VSV,etc.), are the key to my systems cleanliness and health.

Sonny
Im really really, realllly bored at work. Plus I think I have read this thread 5 times hoping to find that 1 secret thing that I have not done to my tank to make is as awesome as this. I just need time in a bottle. :p

He's back!!!! About a week ago you said your Bday was in about a week? Has it passed yet? We pitched and got you something.

Hi Sonny,

Do you think that a six bulb T5 fixture will work on a 28 inch wide tank. I see you have seven bulbs on 24 inch. My new tank is 5' long as well so thinking of using only 54 watt bulbs. Any thoughts?
I am also looking at the Aquatinics like yours. Seems reasonable in cost compared to ATI. Thanks!

I guess any reasonably sized fixture could be used if corals and rockwork is placed accordingly. If you would like better coverage I would try and do 8 bulbs 48" or 60" would be great.

Happy Anniversary! :D

I purchased quite a few corals and reef items including a Vortech MP20 last month so I opted for the Xbox games. Besides, I need to let the corals in my tank grow out and not add anymore in or else I may have to get a larger tank sooner than I would like to. ;)

7 till a split? Lets do it.

So, Sunny, I am 1 week into dosing my MB7. I am getting a ton of little floaty stuff in my water column. I ran a HOB to polish my water, but will the MB7 and Vodka help this issue once it takes hold?

6. You should go bigger. You have an awesome tank now. Id like to see you in something like Ed's second reef tank. The shallow art one.

Happy Belated Birthday Sonny... :)

My wife has sworn off ever getting me any reef related items, mostly because that which I haven't bought is out of her price range, but also because she refuses to support my addiction... She has now sworn off video games as well... She bought me NCAA Football 2009 and got tired of hearing "Rocky Top" constantly being played when I'd score a touchdown... She finds college football fight songs fairly obnoxious... ;)

I almost hate to see the thread split again because of all of the good info in here... :D

The stuff floating around is normal in the beginning phases of dosing. Once the vodka is added you should see less particles floating around. Just be sure and run the largest skimmer within reason so that all waste and particles are picked up.

Ed's Reef is really one of my favorites right now. I love the open design and setup but my next tank is going to be something different than the normal SPS tank. I'm still kicking around some ideas but the next tank should be unique. ;)

 My wife is the same way. I have a nice sound system on my home theater and it literally shakes the house when I score a goal in Fifa 09.

I took my wife to the U of M Big House to watch a game last year and I dont think she will ever go with us again. We sat near the band and Michigan had a great game so the band kept on playing Hail to the victors over and over, LOL. Plus, the 120,000 screaming fans didnt help her cause either.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes and happy Independence day! I dont know about you guys but I have fireworks lined up and ready to blow as soon as it gets dark here!

Oh, and just a side note here but I have been using Strontium for almost two weeks now and have good results thus far. Some of the corals that had stalled in growth now have new growth tips but unfortunately I am now getting more coralline algae. Some people like coralline but I really dont care for it. It gets on your glass and can be a pain to remove. Thankfully I have never had coralline issues on the glass and so far it is only growing on the pumps.

I will stick with the Strontium additions for a while and see what happens.

Thanks for always taking the time to answer questions. Highly appreciated! BTW, belated happy b day!
May you have many more! I hope you look after your own personal health like you do with your tank:D
Here's an old and new pic of my tank. I lost all of my SPS after the move which to this day could not figure out why. Anything new I put in turns white in a couple of weeks. I am waiting for a couple of months before adding anything again.
In the meantime, I am trying to decide on lighting. Right now I have two 400 watt 20 K XMs. I will do the 8 bulb combo like you suggested. There can't be any cutting corners. Cheers!

Great looking system!

Sorry to hear about your mysterious coral loses. Sometimes things go wrong for no apparent reason. The 8 bulb combo would look great over your system. Have you been running carbon recently? If not, it would be a good idea to do so. You may also want to look into a Polyfilter or Purigen to suck up any chemicals in the tank.
