i was misunderstood, i figured it out, but what i wanted to know was how the pointer slipped in.

the plastic isnt centered, so if you put it one way it sits lower, the other higher (all in dry)

i found a photo and put it in to match

thanks for the help though

fwiw, swing arms are very inaccurate most of the time. Most of them say 1.023 but really its at 1.028! Randy holmes farley(chemistry guy here) has a formula, that you add a certain amount of salt to some water, and check it to your swing arm to see how off it is. You will be surprised if you do this test. The temperature of the water being measured is important also. If its too warm or cold for the preset manufactures temperature, you will also get inaccurate results. I suggest asking randy for that formula so you can compare.

Fwiw, most people use a refractometer to meausre SG of their water. Its dead on. Or a digital salt meter/conductivity meter. I suspect now that your swing arm came out, that its highly innacurate now..... Sg is one of the most important parameters to keep stable. After all this jumping around, i would not be surprised if your fish get sick. But just keep that sg stable and at natural levles(not 1.028 or whatever its actual value is)

They sould ban swing arm hydrometers!!

Good luck :)
