SPS crabs

So what exactly do these little guys eat? I would think if they are liveing on the acros but not eating them then they must eat pests like red bugs and flatworms?

I believe I read that they eat some type of mucous secreted by the coral.

they will also, i hear, eat any algae that blows onto them (i have GHA ok, deal with it, its almost gone and my corals arent browning)

I know they will remove anything that lands on the coral, to protect it's tissue. I googled "guardian crabs" and got a lot of interesting information.

Maybe its just me, but if you are dipping and QT'ing your corals, then there shouldn't be any acro crabs

Its also a great predictor if your LFS dips their corals as most do not take the time to get the crab out, dip the coral, and then place the acro crab back in their system

I've had three, and this third one is doing fine. The first one my green clown goby kicked him out of a green slimmer and I never saw him again, the second one came free in an acro colony, a few days later I found him sucked into a powerhead but still alive, I threw him into my 12g nano where there was an acro colony, but never saw him again either. This one seems to be fending fine for itself in a new acro colony I got from LA. Guess they didn't see him in it and I got it fo free :lol:

I have witnessed the Hairy Crab with blue eyes Eating my Acro Milli Polyps.:furious:I removed 2 of them from my Acros. I have one of the white ones with the black band on his face in my Acro echinata and he is safe.
