SPS - MH or LED? Real World Theory

The Evergrow d120 says it has 55 3W bridgelux LED of 8 colors. It does not say which colors or how many of each.

I can't seem to find anything about the Apollo G2 Leds.

How does this tank look under just the Evergrows? What about under just the G2's?

.

.

So does this mean you're going to skip the experiment and just got with the better looking light set-up over your tank instead?

No. I am looking for one more lumen Max 2 for my big tank which over the winter I will run the combo of LED (Mainly the Blues)10 fixtures with the 4 radiums.

I am looking for a radium elite set-up for the frag tank to do the said experiments. I am phasing in a geo 624 to the frag system from 2 part so it will be a few weeks for that to level out.

Update with Better Pictures

Pictured below is the Layout until I get another MH fixture for the Left. What you cannot see are the 4 Apollo LEDS running right to left in the back.

Tank MH& LED side as you can see the yellows look much better and the yellow tang is actually yellow

Led Only Side and there is that orange (yellow tang again)

I think your going in the right dirrection, I bet the guys on all the LEDs are the greatest thing since slice bread threads aren't to happy to see this! I'm not knocking leds as I also used them for better than three years over my SPS system but have since seen the light LOL

your tank looks awsome

I think it is the white (yellow) light that is creating the issues with leds. I might just go ahead a modify my D120 panels and make them all 420, 450, 460nm blue and only use halides for the white light.

Tom I enjoy your threads you always get everyone to rally up and go a direction and then you peel off in another, certainly helpful and always kinda hard to tell on your tank with the good colors and growth you already have going on.

I run t5's with my led panels and like your seeing with the radiums the fish colors look much more natural and stunning and the corals will color up differently than under all led.

Like you I'm on about my 3rd different generation of led's and the whites/yellows have gotten better each time but still think there's a problem, but even if there not I get a much better spread of light from the t5's and that lighting seems to penetrate to all areas.

I'm really liking those whites turned nearly off with the t5's added best change I made since I took off my radium/vho's.

Still wondering why I sold those halides duh!

crazy!! did all LED CW, RB, BL for one year and wasn't totally please. Since added four 80w T5, three blue plus, one Fiji Purple and thought colors were pretty good.

Radium and LED , that's disgusting lol

The last pictures are really nice!
MHs are just the best, period!
I would remove the LEDs and put some Blue Plus T5 HOs, ATI fixture, with those MHs!! :D
Very, very nice!

Grandis.

I am really liking these lights and so do the corals! Two more pendents came in today now I need two more m80 ballast.

wow, jaw dropping....perhaps the metal halides are just easy to photograph? I think it would be interesting to document changes in color as time passes....also what PAR are you targeting throughout your tank?

I clipped a couple frags for my buddy and this is the first time I have ever seen Green in my Red Planet. The Hawkins also has more of a teal color to it. These corals have been under Mh and LED Blue for less than a week.

Below is my final layout. Used 3/8 aluminum rod and installed in the holes of the angle iron to suspend the pended. They installed nicely flush with the LED panels. I have one more pendant that will be installed when the ballast arrive.

Well I have been running 2x 90gallon tanks with a common sump. One has 2 AI blues and the other has 2 400watt mh. Chem stats
11/18 Red Sea test
Mag 1500
Ca 480
dKH 10.6
Guess what the coral in the mh tank is growing great and the led tanks they are just hanging out.
I want to try a radion pro and the AI hydra 52 when they come out. But that's what I see.
