SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

Man looks like the water level is to high. mayeb you should open up the slots on the overflow to keep up with the flow of the pump. As the slots become cloged in time you may have a problem.

TRUE,

I have the level at half an in. under the edge..there by choice. I dont want a HUGE water mark.

Thanks man!!!

I've been quietly following this thread from the beginning and always look forward to the updates. I can honestly say it was worth the wait. The setup looks great and should make for an awesome display.

Congrats.

Thanks REEF!

I was finally able to position the Tunze's were they dont cause a sand storm.. I also fired up my 9005 skimmer and waiting for it to settle in. Now, i am already thinking about the Ca. Reactor..:D:D

POST 1000

As my 1000th post i wanted to thank the people who inspired me to build this setup. It was a loooooong and often frustrating process but i managed to get it up and running.

My REALLY good friend Brian (MakoJ) and his wife Chrissy for putting up with my phone calls from day one.. we love you guys!

Invincible569- Your tank inspired me to build this system. Your amazing sense of detail and your dedication makes your tank an easy example to follow.. thank you so very much.

Marc (Melev)- Your site is a bottomless well of knowledge, without you my sump would have never existed..thanks a lot!!

Leonardo's Reef- Another amazing tank that not only inspired me but so many other reefers to build systems that try to recreate nature to the teeth. Thanks so much too.

The peeps at Tunze and AquaMedic for making some of the best equipment. You keep making it..ill keep buying it :D

Digital Aquatics for their top of the line controllers. I am in love with my RKll.. You guys put the world "stylish" in the hobby. Thanks!!

Pete at SAWOODWORKS.com 100% talent and dedication, thanks for building my stand :D

Ace (HOBOGATO): Thanks for putting up with my "uh oh's".. Your time and talent is what makes this system be able to run. Thanks!

The fine people at Jack Daniels- You made this whole process waaay less stressful..thanks for the motivation.

Uncle Rog, your craftsmanship is what made all of this possible.. thanks a million!! After all that jack we were able to get it going..

My GORGEOUS girlfriend Krystynn.. Thank you for pushing and motivating me to peruse my passion. Your contagious passion for life obviously rubs off on me. I am your biggest fan ;)

Diego

Diego, you're welcome! :) Thank you very much for mentioning my tank.
Can't wait for the progress of this tank. Congrats with your 1000th posts!

Already any ideas what Ca reactor you will choose?

Leonardo

Thanks JPA!

Leonardo,

Im hoping HOBOGATO will build a Ca. reactor suitable for my system, its roughly 100 gal. including the sump. So nothing too big..

Well, after 3 days of running..its started to pull stuff out :D

I LOVE TUNZE!!

Awesome build! I am contemplating about buying a shallow tank since it's so easy to work on compared to tall tanks (mine!) but I'm also worried about fishes jumping out so easily on shallow tanks...

Shallow tank + Reeflux 12K = awesome!

Maybe I'm missing something, and please fill me in if I aml but, what is the attraction to the 250W Reeflux 12K?? It's PPFD is only 54, on the best choice for ballasts... I chose a 250W 20K XM and the PPFD is 79. And, I don't need to run actinics with the 20K.

Acroporanut is using the 400W's, and they are defintely a lot stonger. They have a PPFD in the 120's depending on ballast. But, for the 250W version, they just don't compare to other 250's. Check out Sanjay's page before jumping on the bandwagon. http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/

Not saying that 250W Reeflux's suck or anything, just saying they aren't THAT strong. Personally, I've never used them either, but, it is for the merre reason that the numbers don't hold up....
